DISCOVERY VISION: We strive to design and implement the best possible discovery and delivery experience for our end users using data-driven decision making. We envision a network zone experience that will allow users to discover library materials across UC collections without sacrificing relevant results. As such, the default search and results interface should prioritize the success of typical users while providing additional functionality for more advanced users.

From Sarah Houghton :

  • CDL working on group negotiation with Innovative on $ for the overlap period.

  • Note: missing 2 (of 10) positions at CDL, so development on e.g. Request System is affected.

From Policy & Practice Coordinators (PPC):

Discussion: how are we going to handle links (to ILL something, to request from Special Collections, etc.) when Primo has some limits on its default display for links.

Slack dialogue [edited] with Fulfillment FG Chair (Liz Rodriguez) on 7/13:

“Our Our decision date is July 30th. We just wanted to keep you aware of the two things we're considering, since it could affect discovery group.

It's highly likely that we will decide on option one 1 for Vanguard. It's the configuration that CDL already submitted for the third party forms, but since those forms aren't due till next month, our group is reviewing both options to make sure we're OK with that for Vanguard.”“Option 1 may or may not impact the requests for Elsevier requests/reprints desk”

“If we go with option 1, the request system will be retired, and that may is retired:

  • might impact the Elsevier requests/reprints desk and HathiTrust links. We might need some customization to make the links appear for users.

While
  • we don't yet know if Elsevier links will be impacted,

  • UC Davis has linked HathiTrust full-text links with Primo, so if the HathiTrust links are impacted, we may just be able to use the same customization that UC Davis has

come up with.”“Option

Option 2 keeps the request interface, but it's likely that CDL

  • CDL likely will need to do a lot of custom coding

work to make option 2 work,
  • work… and it's likely that it will be too quick a turnaround time for them to do that for Vanguard.

If we're able to get option 1 to work for us with slight configurations for the Elsevier and Hathi links, patrons will be able to more directly request the materials in Primo.”
