Discussion items

Overall a good meeting to connect IT, cataloging, and archives/special collections staff

UCLA has implemented a way for users to request batches of items via Primo

Concern with excluding special collections records from the Networked Zone (NZ) and some fields being superceded. Metadata CKG recommends each campus decide on an individual basis whether to exclude in NZ or Institutional Zone (IZ).

But would Aeon implementation impact this? Seems like it would not.

We want it to be clear from user perspective that they can’t request items from one campus to be made available on another campus. Wait to hear from Discovery group?

Barcodes for retrieval. If you don’t have barcodes, how does it work? Pulled from item level records for SRLF. One time fee for Kiaisoft for RLFs and retrieval.

Question: is there a cost involved with connecting Aeon and Primo? Not aware of this being an issue.

Inquire with Discovery Group re: how users determine local campus copies, what that looks like.2

Finding aid/OAC data - have there been discussions with CDL?

Find out if Vanguard institutions have explored how finding aids will display in SILS, as they have explored with Calisphere collections (Calisphere Collections for UC-Shared Vanguard Primo VE )

Can the OAC connect with Primo? (http://documents.el-una.org/1906/ and https://developers.exlibrisgroup.com/blog/loading-indexing-fulltext-of-eads-into-primo/)

OAC is OAI-PMH, does not have API.

Who would CDL talk to about this? (PPC, Resource Management FG?)

Is it possible to “scrape” the finding aids into Primo from OAC? Might possibly be tapping ASpace.

Should we wait until NAFAN is completed? There are plans for that to include an API.

Kathryn S talk with Adrian/CDL special collections group to ask if the OAI-PMH can connect with Primo. Share any information you have if you’ve poked around!

Kathryn will talk to CDL staff about connections with OAC

Danelle will talk to Elizabeth Margolis or Josephine in PPC about “discoverability of finding aids in Primo”

Unlinking spec coll records from NZ

Randy Brandt

Discussion about whether or not campuses will link their spec coll records to the NZ during migration, in order to protect them from being obscured if they are not the first record to load to the NZ. Spec Coll Cataloging CKG recommended that each campus determine whether or not to unlink records from the NZ.

The Vanguard has shown that Primo searches each campus’ IZ and linking records to NZ is not a requirement for consortial discovery. Vanguard campuses that loaded later in the queue noted some loss of cataloging enhancements and/or inheritance of other institutions’ improperly coded local data from the NZ version of the record for spec coll records.

Final Test load order has not yet been decided. There is one more final vote today.

UCLA and UCR are going to go ahead and link their records in the Test load and see what is lost.
