DISCOVERY VISION: We strive to design and implement the best possible discovery and delivery experience for our end users using data-driven decision making. We envision a network zone experience that will allow users to discover library materials across UC collections without sacrificing relevant results. As such, the default search and results interface should prioritize the success of typical users while providing additional functionality for more advanced users.

PPC approved our Primo VE Search Profile Configuration decision page on 2/19.

SILS Town Hall had lively discussion:

  • Easy active - you get all 4 billion records

  • Everyone has to turn on easyaccess within UCs

Q: Will this be a joint decision within UCs or is it already decided?

A: We believe it is already decided. EasyAccess is it

UC-eLinks

Collecting Analytics

20 min

AllShould we ask CDL to pull the data per campus for us?

Definition of Analytics reports

Specifically:

  • Query #2: Number of SFX requests and clickthroughs per source. The number of times users clicked the SFX button in any particular source (rec$sourceId) and the number of clickthroughs; output is sorted by source name.

and

  • Query #7: Number of clickthroughs per target. The number of times specific targets were selected in the SFX menu.

What current UC-eLinks (incidental) data do campuses have to share?

Is there an (PDF-like) icon that can be placed next to (for example: “Get It @ UC”)

Q: What is the difference between use of locally managed resources (do all campuses have access to the data?) and CDL (Allison) managed resources?

Q: How much time does it take for analytics staff to pull these reports?

Q: Is there an annual singular report that merges SFX use data local and

Q: Why are we after this data? What actions can come from it?

A: Determine the impact of our recommendation to rename UC-Elinks

Q: How about something as simple as, “Get it” or “Get it at UC” with a pdf icon. This phrase and icon may be in competition with direct links to publisher in some cases.

UCM feedback from some colleagues: “Get it” is aggressive. Suggest “Find it”

Discussion about LibKey. UCR has it and likes it. Perhaps a systemwide license for LibKey can be investigated. We believe there is a consortial agreement for LibKey for some of the campuses. Jess Waggoner did usability studies and links to LibKey tested very well.

Q: Do all campuses have UC-elinks integrated into Google Scholar.

A: Yes

UC-eLinks analytics to collect:

  • Click through (#2) Clickthroughs per source Click through

  • (#7) Clickthroughs per target

Date ranges:

  • All of 2019

  • All of 2020

  • Month of Oct 2020

Ask Allison (CDL) to pull SFX reports for all campus

Campuses that have access to local use SFX data can supply reports with the local data (Josephine and Michael have analytics people to do the local report)

Heather Smedberg (Unlicensed) investigate who on her campus can pull local sfx use reports

Sharon Shafer (Unlicensed) investigate who on her campus can pull local sfx use reports

Sarah Houghton Explore pursuit of a UC wide consortial license to LibKey / Browzine for ultimate UX harmonization

Configuration Recommendations Workbook

Tasks to decide for today’s mtg:

  • What can we sign off on as a recommendation? Include screenshots as needed

  • What needs to be identified with further discussion/data? Include screenshots as needed

Question about distinction between resource type and material type in Primo VE configuration.

Discussion about “recommendation” vs. “advice” vs. “best practices” vs. “lessons learned”.

Discussion about testing search profile slots in different ways on different campuses during the test phase.

  • avail in home

  • only avail in advanced

  • avail in menu etc…

Jess Waggoner outlined: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ck_DM8OdWl92X8Pi4aYiLNCzvfW_XuhthVdQ5myiEH8/edit

  • Have recommendations ready to show to PPC (2/26)

All: Everyone without an API key for Worldcat should get the key so it can be tried out in a test ASAP

All: Investigate difference between resource type and material type config as it behaves in Primo VE interface

Jess Waggoner will start a document about “best practices”/ “lessons learned” / “advice” document to hold these concepts

Jess Waggoner draft a decision page to document which MARC fields are searched and which MARC fields are available as facets
