Updates (please add in advance)

10 mins

UCLA (Hermine):

  • Winding down local RMFG group, with a few outstanding issues:

    • Bound-with best practices

    • E-bookplates and collections codes

    • Authority control

Gem has downloaded MARCIVE files into production. The loading will happen soon!

WorldCat Updates

20 mins

Liz is asking for feedbacks on the test batch.

583 came through

Jean notices the presence of non-Latin script parallel fields in the Russian records and is happy about it. Disappointed to notice some lower quality changes made to the OCLC master records were brought in.

UCLA folks are generally happy with the result.

11 multimatch records in this batch. When importing them via the import profile, they came through but the report showed there was no record deleted even when merged records were deleted. Gem will investigate more and figure out what happened.

Liz and Gem will try loading another 75 files this week and see whether they go through smoothly.

If folks discover something bad during this next batch loading for the next two weeks, let Liz/Gem know and they can stop the job.

If you are curious about if a bib is being merged, check if there is a NZ MMS ID in 904.

Review new reports from CDL

15 mins

Feedback from UCLA:

  • Mostly big questions about how this work can be distributed equitably.

  • Non-roman paired headings: in the past we’ve consulted our language experts to check them when making changes to the romanized headings--should that continue when the record may not be something we own?

  • 1XX/240 control - any possibilities?

UCLA data maintenance team has closely examined these reports and a concern over the workload has emerged. They also identified some oddities such as medium terms in 382.

Hopefully, the next RMFG will figure out a workflow.

Wish list:

1.A separate report for each campus to review will be ideal.

2.Take advantage of AlmaRefine or OpenRefine to weed false positive entries.

More reports will be made available in January for those who are interested in reviewing

Phase 4 wrap-up

Jean: Enjoys being on this team, has learned a lot, and passes information between the team and her colleagues.

Martha: Enjoys the study halls and communication via Slack.  Wondering if there will be a system-wide Slack channel for cataloging questions.

Hermine: Slack channel is the best for the quick responses.  Hopes it will be accessible to wider audience.

Liz: This group handled LOTS of SILS migration and configuration issues. The dynamic of the group really helped!

Shi: Really learned a lot through the participation in this group. Also got better understanding of CDL’s operation and impacts. In addition, this involvement also enhanced her work with her staff.

Cat: Collaboration across campuses rocks!

Sarah: Curious about how collaboration can continue after this phase is over.

Asks the next SILS governing body if it is possible to set up a system-wide Slack channel for Q&A
