DISCOVERY VISION: We strive to design and implement the best possible discovery and delivery experience for our end users using data-driven decision making. We envision a network zone experience that will allow users to discover library materials across UC collections without sacrificing relevant results. As such, the default search and results interface should prioritize the success of typical users while providing additional functionality for more advanced users.

PPC: Josephine shared the subgroup UX testing work plan with PPC, so they are all aware that we will be partnering with their groups in November.

Internal Training Subgroup: For those needing Primo VE certification, they should have that completed by December 18th, 2020.

Jess & Josephine met with Digital Collections FG (DCFG) - yesterday upon their invitation to learn about our Discovery work thus far. We presented that information and previewed the evaluation process and partnership that Sharon and Michael will be working on with DCFG.

End User Outreach Subgroup (EUOS): Josephine stepped down from EUOS membership to better accommodate her non-SILS related workload. Her replacement is Joanna Kang, UCSF Library’s  Data Science & Marketing Coordinator.

SILS End-User Name Subgroup

The EUOS co-chairs presented their End User Name for SILS proposal to the WG on Friday 10/16/20.

Key points from the Working Group discussion of the EUOS proposal

  1. The Working Group membership as a whole questioned the need for “yet another brand” on top of the brand for the Discovery layer. The Discovery layer is where users would “see” the brand, and having two (e.g. UCLA UC-Link Library Search) would be confusing.

  2. It was felt that EUOS was involving itself in the branding work of the Discovery group in order to meet their self-imposed deadlines for user outreach, but the WG also wanted to respect those deadlines.

  3. Some members of the WG, and both EUOS co-chairs, expressed a dislike for the name “Library Search.”

  4. The WG disagreed with the focus on faculty as the primary audience.

  5. The WG understood that some of the EUOS members bring additional marketing expertise that may not exist on Discovery.

  6. In the end, the WG wanted Discovery and EUOS to work on this together with 3 reps from each group, plus a comms rep, working on a quick timeline.

Jess volunteered to serve on this sub-group. Other interested members will contact Jess and Josephine by 10/23 (Friday).

Jess and Josephine will contact the SILS Project Managers (Lena Zentall, Christine Barone, and Neil Weingarten) with the names of the Discovery appointees to this sub-group.
