Discussion items

DISCOVERY VISION: We strive to design and implement the best possible discovery and delivery experience for our end users using data-driven decision making. We envision a network zone experience that will allow users to discover library materials across UC collections without sacrificing relevant results. As such, the default search and results interface should prioritize the success of typical users while providing additional functionality for more advanced users.

PPC-wide RLF collaboration page: (Test Load) RLF Workflows

  • This sheet will be used to track workflow testing

  • The testing will be handled by FGs and other cohort groups (like RCTF) for recommendations for RLF records prior to cutover

  • Exact testing has not been pinned down yet; how will testing get synchronized? Testing plans should be brought to PPC.

PM’s would like to know what we would like to rename “UC-eLinks”

  • Refers to what to call UC-eLinks at the database level (Google services, etc.)

  • Alternative option: keep as-is and retain name

The leads of RMFG, Discovery FG, Fulfillment & ILL FG, Archives & Special Collections EL, and RLF Configuration Task Force will meeting to discuss more details

  • UC-eLinks naming: Add to future agenda for discussion

Josephine and Jess have asked

  • Resource Management FG: “do you foresee any problems with exposing materials from the network in the default search profile?”

  • Acquisitions & E-Resources FG: “do you foresee any problems with exposing materials from CDI in the default search profile?”

  • Fulfillment & ILL FG: asked them both questions above.

They will give us feedback by Feb. 10th

Naming “Almost Everything”

Discuss preferred naming

All

  • SC, SB, R, SD, B, LA, CDL agree with “Articles, Books and more”, and not harmonizing placeholder text

  • Irvine did not have a chance to discuss but don’t foresee any objections

CDI & EasyActive & Filter by availability

Better understand the topic

Ellen’s CDI & EasyActive & Filter by Availability document in our Google drive’s Functionality Testing folder

  • There’s a distinction between using a link resolver in a record and the existence of a vendor “link in record”.

  • Questions remain about implications of using EasyActive

    • does it turn on all collections in CDI, or all collections in Alma?

    • how much control will we have over collection settings after they have been turned on in EasyActive?

    • how cluttered will results be if all collections are turned on?

    • workflow concerns for e-resources colleagues

  • Most current Alma campuses default to turn on filter by availability; Irvine is the exception

Josephine:Reach out to Acquisitions & E-resources FG to share and discuss these details.

WorldCat decision page

Work on drafting

Draft WorldCat Decision Page

  • Is there need or interest in working on an environmental scan to gather evidence to support a decision on WorldCat scope?

  • An official environmental scan is not needed; CDL will fully support our decision and help address faculty or individual campus concerns.

  • Individual campuses will capture their WorldCat experiences during test load to document the possibilities of options in how to deal with a WorldCat scope.
