DISCOVERY VISION: We strive to design and implement the best possible discovery and delivery experience for our end users using data-driven decision making. We envision a network zone experience that will allow users to discover library materials across UC collections without sacrificing relevant results. As such, the default search and results interface should prioritize the success of typical users while providing additional functionality for more advanced users.

Internal Training Subgroup:

ExL is offering three diff options for Primo VE wk-long workshop: May 17th, May 24th, or June 7th.  I advocate for May 17th.  Want to make sure that's good with all of you. See the proposed schedule.

PPC:

Questions that came up at last PPC Mtg; no definitive answers yet -

  • Who should maintain the NZ post-GoLive?

  • Who owns the NZ?

IT

May 17 = ok

PPC

  • MVP: Jess & Josephine are about 1/3 done for MVP. Took functionality testing issues.

  • NZ: collectively owned. CDL will be doing maintenance. Will be looking at what needs to happen in NZ during Testing.

@Josephine Tan (Unlicensed) will double check on specific times of day for the workshop sessions.

Proposal for creating a Configurations Subgroup (made up of members across FG’s or IC’s)

Share background

10 min

Josephine

A few weeks ago at a SILS Chairs Mtg, someone suggested that there be a Configurations Subgroup. Discovery co-chairs met this week and agreed such a subgroup would be beneficial. Josephine drafted this proposal per the PMs' request -

PROPOSAL:   Create a Configurations Subgroup

DESIRED OUTCOME:

Have one group make sure configurations are being done correctly and consistently

WHY:

  • An effective method to check configurations that especially will affect harmonization

  • To keep an eye on how configurations made by one group can affect the work of other groups

  • A good way to create quality control of configuration tasks

  • What is discussed and documented can provide future training materials for Internal Training Subgroup to incorporate into a training infohub

WHY NOW:

  • In anticipation that initial configurations will be adjusted during test phase, a designated subgroup taking an overarching view of configuration can improve workflow of all FGs from test load and cutover.

  • Ensure that no other groups are negatively impacted by a config decision and provides one space where areas of standardization can be identified.

  • Whatever is learned now could be folded into training

PM’s will discuss the idea to create a Configurations Subgroup at an upcoming PPC-IC Mtg to determine if such a group is needed; if so, who would be members

Add to proposal: opportunities for enhancements going forward too.

Feedback from AEFG re: CDI & EasyActive & Filter by availability

Acquisitions & E-Resources FG (AEFG)'s CDI/Primo VE Search Feedback for Discovery FG

Reference:

Ellen’s CDI & EasyActive & Filter by Availability document

Reply from Lisa Spagnolo (AEFG Co-chair): “ I think the test environment will be a good opportunity to surface any issues that may arise. There are some concerns that EasyActive will put those campuses who might need more clean-up of their e-inventory more at a disadvantage – that may be an area of some support to make it less of an issue.“

Nothing specific - background to keep in mind when testing.

Will discuss more next week.

@Jared Campbell will share with @Lisa Ngo (Unlicensed) and others some examples of e-resources that are “clean” (working well) and some that are not
@Sharon Shafer (Unlicensed) will get feedback from colleagues b/c they’ve been using an ERMs.

Configuration Recommendations Workbook

Configuration Recommendations Workbook

Process: could be 1. Harmonize 2. Priority.

Considerations:

  • Basic functionality

  • Task failure

Discussion Notes: include data from already-Primo campuses

@Lisa Ngo (Unlicensed) noted that Berkeley wants to have Primo configured in early March - taking a week to get set up b/c do not want big changes during testing. Sharon highlighted that Lisa’s UCB Testing Worksheet notes available in our Google Drive (Discovery FG > Functionality Testing folder) are a very useful resource to refer to during this next test phase.

@Jess Waggoner outlined: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ck_DM8OdWl92X8Pi4aYiLNCzvfW_XuhthVdQ5myiEH8/edit

Expanded documentation should be linked in the table document to more detailed documents in Google drive, e.g. if UCLA wants to customize brief display

By first week of March -

Discovery FG will have our first set of recommendations to local discovery teams that offer:

  • Configurations to test for harmonization

  • A list of things that campuses should feel free to try configuring as they like. Meanwhile, Discovery FG will be testing out and working towards offering a list of suggested configurations that campuses can consider using if they wish before cutover

All: Subgroups should expand recommendations
Josephine: Add a link to PPC MVP sheet at top right of each configuration workbook document

Suggestion:

Have the PPC’s MVP sheet open simultaneously while reviewing the workbook documents to keep an eye on parallel information to help guide ranking importance of items to prioritize
