UCB iSchool Friday events- last Friday hosted a successful Goodbye Melvyl event with Sarah, Gunter and Salwa.

PPC: pretty quiet lately (last meeting canceled)

Other Groups:

• SH working group in transition tidying things up for handover

• Operations “phase” begins 1/1/22

Finalize Restrict Resource Sharing Restriction Rules by Location decision

• Provides examples of materials that might have resource sharing restricted: special collections, equipment, etc.

• Campuses to decide individually based on local practices and sharing rules

JW will edit Process section to add that locations can be modified as needed

Potential implications for NZ - is this something we should harmonize on?

UCSC eResources Librarian had some concerns (particularly around link in record CDI eBooks and NZ activations for these)

Comments:

• UCSD local group would welcome more information

• Result in less duplication of records

• Reduce ILL workload of receiving CDI ebook requests

• UCSC ILL has been successful obtaining ebook chapters

• Concerns about open access materials for ex. Project Gutenberg records

• UCD weighing pros and cons

• Chapter level records will still surface – user can then request with ILL link

• UCB not making changes to Primo until 2022 unless Disco FG makes a harmonization recommendation

Next steps:

• bring to PPC since this touches upon many areas: SCP, concerns about OA records, etc.

• seems like there is dissatisfaction when these settings are selected

DiscoFG feedback for AEFG-CDL Proposal for Multi-Part Electronic Resources:

• Note two major parts to answer

• UCD looking at different models SUNY etc. to see how other universities are handling this

• Imagine future in which Primo can be used to locate databases, for campuses currently using LibGuides A-Z list

• Question re: will subcollections be listed in parent/umbrella record (i.e. searchable)

  • In public note of portfolio, however this will result in a demanding workload

• Question to resource liaison group re: identifying subcollections and have opinions about the models

General Conversation

• Get it at UC vs. database Full Text links; how to teach students the difference

• UCSD noticed UC Libraries and creator/author facets intermittently not showing up ; search terms from webpage search box not carrying over to advanced search; ExL indicated this was due to deep links configuration

• UCD troubleshooting indexing issue w/ NZ record (seeing behavior across instances); preparing a Salesforce ticket (will share)

• Placing Browzine in Main Menu links; replace or have in addition to the Primo Journal Search

• FRBR question from UCSB

  • Video and audio formats being grouped together

  • JW feedback: ExL suggest adding NZ rules in IZ

  • Data problem vs FRBR issues?

  • Possible searches to test: Beethoven 125, opera (The Magic Flute)

  • UCSC- some suboptimal results using FRBR; experimenting with preferred record criteria

  • Subject browse issue escalated within ExL; still a problem (lots of strong dislike of this feature)

  • UCR request/ILL conversation ongoing

  • UCSC moving to 1 request option (ILL)

  • Array of request options can be confusing
