Discussion items
DISCOVERY VISION: We strive to design and implement the best possible discovery and delivery experience for our end users using data-driven decision making. We envision a network zone experience that will allow users to discover library materials across UC collections without sacrificing relevant results. As such, the default search and results interface should prioritize the success of typical users while providing additional functionality for more advanced users.
Item | Desired Outcome | Time | Who | Notes | Decisions | Actions | |

5 | Renaming “UCS Network” scope | Begin discussions of renaming UCS Network scope | 15 min |
|
Helpful to know what ‘UCS Network’ searches in order to have a contextual conversation about what ‘everything’ should search |
|
|
6 | Defining “Everything” scope | Begin discussions of how to define “Everything” | 15 min |
| Reference - Ellen’s slides Both searches include CDI and IZ results but the difference is how many results because of filter settings UCI configured so patrons will find print versions of items. UCI like records avail whether or not you have online access. ILL is very fast. Increases the liklihood there will be ILL from advanced grad students, faculty. UCD made the decision with a focus on undergraduate users. Public service librarians encountered confused students. UCSC Preferenced novice success. Emphasis on topic searches not individual item. Make discovery as efficient as possible. UCSC plans to start advertising ILL available in 1-2 day as a stat msg under status. DFG should consider transparency around endusers about what we call “everything” so they have an idea about what content they are searching share cataloging and open access discoverability in regard to just turn the records on in CDI &/or produce catalog records. UCSC wrestle with how to guide users to the “Didn’t find it” box. Explore new ways to get folks to expand their search. |
| @Josephine Tan (Unlicensed) reach out to CSUs to see how they dealt with the concept of ‘everything’ search |

| All: Look at ExL’s Primo VE Customization Best Practices All: Take 2 questions back to your local group(s). What should be in the concept of ‘everything’. What should or should not be pre-filtered?

Note from @Sharon Shafer (Unlicensed) regarding agenda item 1. UCLA Library ingested the Film and Television Library catalog records during the Alma data harvest and there was concern about the unique needs of item display and search for the film and television records. UCLA Discovery Functional Group started a document to examine the MARC fields and their function. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qWW7wr3pWau7wbAbthSB9lLcv3T0xYol990FV48MpbM/edit Should we share this with RMFG?
The SILS mission is to transform library services and operations through innovation and collaboration. The future is shared!
