Recommendation

SILS Operations Center will take on central coordination for a UC Libraries move from Primo VE to Primo NDE.

Reasoning

Discovery recommends that all campuses migrate to Primo NDE at the same time. Having SILS Operations Center take on central coordination for the move to Primo NDE should reduce campus duplication of effort and enhance communication across SILS Cohort groups.

Background

Per ExLibris “The NDE (Next-Generation Discovery Experience) UI provides library users with a modern, streamlined interface.”

Ex Libris documentation suggests that all Primo users must transition to the NDE by January 2028. Prior to migrating, UC SILS will need to test new functionality, rewrite any campus customization/branding, and carry out any new NDE specific configuration. This will require a substantial amount of work but coordinating this work across campuses should reduce the amount of work any one campus must do.

SILS Operations Center Responsibilities

Alison Ray will be the project manager and Gem Stone-Logan will provide additional support as needed (such as vendor escalation). SILS Operations Center will be responsible for:

• Project management

• Timeline organization

• Coordination/facilitation with SILS stakeholders

• Escalation path/facilitation

• Vendor coordination

• Scope containment/definition

• When applicable, configuration of Network Zone configuration upon the advice of SILS Cohort experts

SILS Cohort and Campus Responsibilities

While SILS Operations Center will coordinate this projcet, they do not have access to the individual campus Alma instances and, as such, cannot provide institution zone configuration changes. In addition, campus representatives are best suited to know the needs of their individual campuses. As such, SILS Cohort representatives, and appropriate campus staff, will be responsible for:

• Expert opinions and advice

• Identification of areas that need to be reconfigured/changed

• Testing

• Re-configuring discovery interface options

• Re-configuring any backend coding/customizations

• Re-doing instructional material

• Re-training service desks

• Communicating changes to campus staff and patrons
