Updates/announcements (Please add in advance)

10 mins

All

Liz:

  • We’ve found some IZ-only records that are being de-duped with CDI records in Primo. The documentation seems pretty clear that this isn’t expected so we have a ticket submitted

Hermine:

  • Working on duplicate titles and finding lots of… interesting stuff. (Same OCLC number used for different editions, etc.)

  • We started Greek shelf-ready with Casalini and their first batch of records included three with foreign-language-of-cataloging OCLC numbers and one that was for an earlier edition. Seemed like a good opportunity to set up a meeting about their cataloging--that’s happening on Tuesday.

Catherine:

  • Some GOBI 999 fields are still being added to the NZ records instead of as local extensions; working to identify and ensure they are loaded with $9 local.

Adam:

  • Some 955 were added to the NZ records instead of as local extensions. Most have been cleaned up and another batch will be done in July.

  • Possible strategies to ensure local fields are added as local extensions:

    • Update validation: Configuration > Resources > Metadata Configuration > MARC21 Bibliographic > 955. Change subfield 9 to mandatory. Will need to test how it works with “Add Local Extension”.

    • Update normalization rule on save to add $9 local if missing.

Continuing membership/vice chair volunteers

Liz/Hermine

Quick check-in to see who is staying on for next year

  • Everyone except Liz; however, Liz will still be available for WorldCat Updates and CJK reindexing

Also: if you’re interested in serving as vice chair, please let Liz and Hermine know before our next meeting.

Let Liz and Hermine know if you are interested in serving as vice-chair next year

3

CJK indexing update (yes, again)

Liz

Update from Ops/All-chairs

  • Cannot be implemented as part of the semiannual reindexing and will need to be a separate reindexing before the sandbox refresh in August

  • 1 campus will go first, followed by groups of 3 campuses each, and then the NZ last

  • Will have dedicated support from Ex Libris during reindexing

  • During reindexing, expect there to be problems searching in Alma; should have no impact on Primo searching

4

External WorldCat Search in the NZ

Liz

  • There are two profiles for OCLC in Search External Resources for the NZ.

  • On May 30, Gem will delete both in the sandbox and recreate it. This will be followed by a period of testing before making the change on production.

allUC merge #1 500 notes

Adam

  • In the allUC merge #1 rule, 500 fields are only protected if the original Alma record has a 500 field and there is no 500 field in the incoming record. In all other cases, the incoming 500 fields replace any existing 500 fields or are added if there are no existing 500 fields.

  • This results in duplicate data in Alma if data is changed from 500 to a more appropriate field and there are no other 500 fields.

  • Originally protected because of concerns about local data in 500 fields instead of 590; however, it doesn’t work well and we are comfortable removing that protection.

Consider the following rule changes:

Add rule changes to UC Network Zone Rule Change Request Tracking Page

Discuss with campuses

Will approve changes at our June 8th meeting

ELUNA Debrief

Highlights from Hermine:

  • 100 Ex Libris staff flew in from Israel, and many of them were really knowledgeable.

  • Different consortia work really differently; many are very centralized (they want to be able to do everything from the NZ); we are on the other end of the spectrum with our distributed model.

  • Lots of discussion about customer service issues and NERS voting process.

  • Linked data

    • Primo - ability to enable info cards (with Wikidata information) coming soon

    • Coming next year: more BIBFRAME functionality. (Ability to "send to Alma" from Sinopia; keep record in BIBFRAME in Alma)

    • Coming eventually: Linked Open Data Ecosystem in Alma. Work/instance records in Alma, search for a subject would retrieve instances linked to works with that subject.

  • Personalization and efficiency

    • "Recent entities" button for things you worked on but closed–bibs, holdings, items, portfolios, etc.

    • Coming soon: new UX for searching. Ability to choose more than one facet; ability to look at records in results (split pane) and click "next record"

  • “Content”

    • When ExL says "Content" they mean metadata in the CZ and CDI.

    • In the CZ, they are enriching bib records for highly-activated ebook collections, cooperating with providers, enriching with info from print records, etc.

    • In CDI, they're adding secondary resource types (e.g. review article, retracted publication) and starting a subject heading normalization project to only keep actual controlled subjects in "subject," move the rest to disciplines and keywords. Also working on doing a little bit of authority control in CDI, trying to add ORCIDs to author names.

Work Plan Check-in

10 mins

Review Work Plan: Resource Management - Resource Management - SILS

8

Parking Lot/additional discussion

  • Alma August release has five CZ “Managed by Community” collections where portfolios can be deleted by everyone

  • Interest in session answering questions on how campuses decide when or why to use CZ

Limited Search Functionality in Alma and Analytics

Sharing session idea - fun with the CZ? (Maybe in conjunction with e-res?)

Evaluate and refine WDU configuration

NZ records lacking OCLC numbers

Need to review norm and merge rules to make sure local 9xx fields are removed and not allowed into the NZ
