Recommendation

[Frequency], CDL Network Zone Administrators will:

Campuses can continue to request large ad hoc NZ record deletion from CDL by sending a list of MMS IDs to: sils-sysops@cdlib.org with the subject “NZ record deletion request”

Campus staff should not request one-off NZ record deletion

Discovery

Fewer inactive bibs will show up in Primo

CDL

Would add another [frequency] task for the NZ administrators

Reasoning

Background

On March 28, CDL ran the job “Identify records that are not used in the Network” job (with all options checked) and Alma returned 117,543 records (All NZ 2025-03-28 - Identify records that are not used in the Network - Fri Mar 28 14:25:00 UTC 2025). It was then run through CDL’s boundwith filter and still ended up with 116,510 records (All NZ 2025-03-28 - Identify records that are not used in the Network - Fri Mar 28 14:25:00 UTC 2025 - filtered no related records - 03/31/2025 09:42:11 PDT). CDL asked if this is something RM would like cleaned up? If so, what’s the best way to verify it has truly found orphaned bibs?

 Other notes from CDL:

  • OCUL says they usually run this job of bibs that are at least a month old.

  • OCUL also runs the Identify job a second time on the same set.

Questions to consider

  • Are “Related records” that are part of the set a problem?

  • Should recent additions be removed from the deletion process?

  • Should we split the set into Online vs. Not online or by other means, both for reviewing and for running deletes?
