Welcome to Chloe Noland, UCSC

UCSB: New UL started July 1, Todd Grappone

UCLA:

  • Continuing to grapple with policies for SLF-North deposits. Any solutions for how to deal with local extensions?

    • suggested defined NZ field, however there could be issues with this

    • suggested possibly keeping IZ records for SLF items

  • Starting to think about changing name of SRLF to SLF-South in our records. Location name changes will be easy, but we have lots of notes with “SRLF” in the metadata (e.g 506 note).

UCSD:

  • Staffing changes in Metadata: lost one position to layoffs; three positions were moved into different areas of the library; one position was moved into SCP for Chinese-language support.

UCD:

  • Staffing changes: UCD is recruiting a Metadata Librarian. We also lost one Librarian Professional position due to resignation.

Are there any folks that find this time difficult or in conflict with other meetings?

  • OCLC approved data sync collection

  • new workflow: ProQuest to CDL to OCLC to Alma NZ

    • Proposed updates workflow (Ex: embargo updates, however any updates would follow): Campus will update oclc record, export to NZ, publishing profile sends to CDL to update E-Scholarship

      • Question: Will it be a problem for all oclc updates being sent to E-Scholarship via the publishing profile?

        • Let Marcus know if there are known changes that campuses are making regularly to make sure they get picked up

  • Question: Why use the 506$2 star?

  • Links in records aren’t working - possibly because some of them haven’t been added to e-scholarship yet due to the change

  • Timeline for review:

    • Deadline for review will be by July 31 but add any feedback to the Comments document as soon as possible

Everyone should review the records and provide feedback by next meeting (July 31)

Harmonization of OCLC symbol usage for SLF titles

Share information/thoughts from meeting with SLFs; and UCI, UCB, UCLA RM and ILL folks

10 min.

All

Based on the conversation, it seems that there really is no reason for harmonization at this point from an RM perspective; there does not seem to be a central policy on lending of SLF material currently, that kind of policy is out of scope for RM, however, if a policy is made , then RM could certainly revisit whether harmonizing at that time would be advisable

  • SLF-N does not currently have ability to lend internationally; UCB does; there is not a policy in place about SLF lending

  • SLF-S

  • UCI ILL does not have data on how often they turn away requests for things that are at SLF, however, they do not feel that they are burdened unnecessarily by it

  • Fist of five with the group indicated that harmonization is not needed at this time

Decision: will not harmonize

@Catherine Busselen will complete decision page and communicate decision to wider audience

  • Fields Restriction Policy

    • cannot add 9xx field, but can delete it

  • Sandbox will be refreshed August 10, any configurations there now will need to be reset if not added to production prior to that date

@Catherine Busselen will request all remaining 950-999 fields be added to the SB restrictions
Final decision will be made at July 31 meeting
