Cancel Oct 23, 2025 meeting due to UC Forum?

Discovery will be testing some faceting in Primo sandbox that may have an effect on local Primo sandboxes. I have asked them to send a message to the #rm Slack when they are ready to begin testing so we can be aware.

Hermine/UCLA

  • I added a new item to UC Network Zone Rule Change Request Tracking Page that was requested locally--856 fields are coming in when they have $h (Non-functioning URI) or $g (Persistent identifier)--could we add those to the list of 856s that are stripped out?

  • I am part of the WIPT Power of Three team working on restricting editing of NZ normalization rules. My ideal situation would be:

    • NZ rules (norm/merge/ind) can be “locked” in some way so that they can’t be edited by IZ users--for our systemwide rules that shouldn’t be changed without agreement.

    • But other rules can stay unlocked so campus users can tinker with them (e.g. for running jobs).

    • Alternatively, we might want editing NZ rules to be limited to a user role more restrictive than the current Cataloger.

    • We’ll meet with Maud from ExL next week--any thoughts I should pass on?

  • I put in the request to remove the CLU holdings symbol from 2.5M records that have been deposited at SLF-S and no longer have campus holdings.

  • WCDU records mysteriously not updating--with help from Gem and Ryan, I think we figured this one out. When there are more than 100K records in a file, WorldShare breaks them into multiple files, but the Alma import profile was only taking the first one. Gem is going to test changing the import profile file name pattern so it should grab all of them going forward--do we want to think about trying to load the files that never came through?

Catherine/UCSB:

  • Implementing Rialto (should take about 4 weeks); initial use will be for electronic books

Adam/UCB:

  • Discussing a proposal to exclude special collections from dedup in Primo by running the “Prevent FRBR/Dedup” manual job quarterly on a set of records based on sublocation

Oct 23, 2025meeting canceled.

Rule changes for 856 fields will be considered for the update after the November update.

SILS ERES CRL records - CDI only activation decision

Document any concerns we have

CRL records in Alma/Primo

ERES has recommended that CDL activate these two electronic collections in the NZ (CDI only, "Link in Record") for the 9 campuses that are CRL members:

  • CRL Catalog (Collection ID: 613780000000001458)

  • CRL Journals and Newspapers (Collection ID: 61670816660000041)

This topic goes back to Phase 4. This started with RMFG, but since the matter deals with CZ collections, it seemed like a question for ERES to take up, so we did.

Unsure how this works, especially if it contains records for physical records. It would be helpful to see examples of libraries that have activated these collections.

Consider checking if your campus has done something with CRL records locally.

Discovery OS will also be discussing this recommendation.

@Catherine Busselen Investigate if other libraries have activated these CRL collections.

Subgroup for drafting OA workflow in NZ

Formation of subgroup

10 min.

draft “NZ Resource Management” proposal.

OT is asking RM and E-Resources to collaborate and return draft workflow/guidelines. Draft should go to Gem for feedback prior to sending to OT. Gem is also available to answer questions.

Hermine willing to contribute but was also one of the original drafters.

Catherine would be interested but the timing is not great right now.

Anyone else?

Since campus catalogers already add records to the NZ, the guidelines may only have to focus on how to create the portfolio in the NZ.

It might be possible for CDL to setup an FTP server where campuses can upload OCLC records and then have an import profile load the records into the NZ daily.

Would we need to consider processes for handling individual titles and batches?

@Catherine Busselen Put forward Hermine and Marcus to serve on the subgroup.

Removal of all 95X to 99X with protection of local fields

Determine if more testing or tweaking is needed or if we are able to approve the updated rules

UC Network Zone Rule Change Request Tracking Page

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WeZFXwWr_9Wu1vIm-pdxI9Lf3xHnAD0c76zs990vEh4/edit?usp=sharing

Updated to include protection of local/LOCAL fields.

Tested by Catherine, Yoko, Hermine; worked as expected in campus IZ imports.

One concern is that if imported by CDL within the NZ, it will retain those local fields in the NZ record. Would we possibly need to consider separate rules for CDL loading to the NZ?

What about brief acquisitions records created by CDL in the NZ? Don’t expect them to have local extensions.

Should also test if only creating holdings or inventory with $9 local.

Aiming for mid-November roll out in production

@Catherine Busselen Follow-up with Gem to confirm there are no issues with the updated rules for CDL.
