Updates/announcements (Please add in advance)

Information sharing

10 min.

All

  • Latest Alma update:

    • Can now make sliding pane full screen

    • New simplified menus

    • Buttons are easier to click on

    • Can now copy data from the results screen without it taking you to the full-record view

  • Do we want to pursue resolving the missing 506s fields in the ETDs because of OCLC data sync?

    • Feel that the embargo 506 should be in the OCLC record since it is universal

    • Would like OCLC to update their practices

  • Adam (UCB)

    • Adding some more information to their AI-generated metadata policy document; will send out revised policy when it is ready

  • Hermine (UCLA)

    • They have an AI-based 505 field formatter that they can share.

    • Can also extract data from Discogs to make MARC records.

@Catherine Busselen will ask @Jun, Marcus if we can meet with OCLC to make changes on their end.
3

WIPT update

Information sharing

5 min.

@Hermine Vermeij

  • NZ Norm Rules group is Gem, Trina Pundurs, and Hermine.

  • We met with Maud (ExL) on October 14.

  • Talked about scope and wants: would like flexibility (option to protect specific NZ rules, not all); expand to indication and merge rules if feasible.

  • Goal is for the May 2026 release; development would probably start early next year.

4

SILS ERES CRL records - CDI only activation decision

Update

Show example; gather any additional feedback

5 min.

All

CRL records in Alma/Primo

UCLA activated these collections in their IZ prior to the ERES recommendation for NZ activations. Here are some example CDI records (one from each electronic collection):

Records are for e-resources only; not print

  • Agreed that we can activate these collections

@Catherine Busselen will tell Jeremy that it is okay to activate the CRL collections
5

Subgroup for drafting OA workflow in NZ Update ON HOLD

Information sharing

5 min.

@Catherine Busselen

DOC/CoUL sub-team is developing a new, systemwide process to address the broader questions surrounding campus accounts in the NZ. They have asked that we hold off on any actions or discussions related to NZ accounts until that framework is formally endorsed and implemented.

6

Final approval of normalization rule changes and merge rule changes

Fist of five approval

5 min.

Gem OK with protecting local extensions.

Is there a use case for including removal of 95X-99X in Normalization rule #2 (used for WorldCat Daily Updates loads)?

If anyone would like more training on how the norms rules work in a network environment, just let the group know and we can schedule some time.

Several campuses copy the NZ rules for local use, be sure to update the local rules when the NZ rules are updated.

  • Aiming for mid-November roll out in production

  • No need to protect 95X-99X fields in Norm Rule #2 since it is just for WorldCat Updates

@Catherine Busselen Add comment to Norm Rule #2 that it is just for WorldCat Updates
@Catherine Busselen will start the communication process for updating the norm rules

Resolve comments; determine communication plan

15 min.

All

Possible communication: Quarterly RM update to communicate various topics?

  • We reviewed the document and resolved all comments.

@Catherine Busselen will add the Rectifying Incorrect OCLC Numbers to our list of documents and send out an announcement about it.

WorldCat Daily Updates

Begin discussion of completing WorldCat Daily Updates

15 min.

WorldCat Daily Updates

Updated to update more than the 100,000 record cap that had been unintentionally in place. How do we want to handle backfiles?

Incorporating E-resources (SCP)

Current management via UCSD cataloging department; does this make sense in a consortium? Should it shift to SCP/CDL management?

Do we want to do a Coffee Chat/State of the Union talk about WorldCat Daily Updates?

  • Only files from the last three months are kept on the server

  • Would not want to load older files and have a record merge on top of a newer record

@Catherine Busselen and @Finnerty, Ryan will meet to look over the import profile history and the files on the OCLC server.
