HOW TO: Rectify NZ bib with incorrect OCN due to erroneous change
This document describes steps to rectify Network Zone (NZ) bibliographic records when the OCLC number has erroneously changed followed by an example.
To correct the record:
Open the record in Metadata Editor
Closely examine the version history to identify the last version that has the correct description (Path: Metadata Editor–View Related Data–View version)
Restore the record to the last “correct” version (Path: Metadata Editor–View Related Date–View version–Restore Metadata (of the last correct version, including correct OCN)). Save the record
If other UC campuses have their holdings attached to the record, alert your campus RM OST representative who will determine what other notifications may be needed
Update the record in Alma with the latest WorldCat record
Full example with screenshots:
Situation: The OCLC number of a score record was incorrectly changed to that of a book record.
Original version was for a print score.
The Alma record is a copy of the WorldCat record OCN 728332.
The record was updated on 2022-04-29. The OCN was changed from 728332 to 18250295 while the rest of the record stayed the same.
The record was updated again on 2022-05-27 via WorldCat Daily Update. The title was changed from “Nonet, for strings” to “An inquiry into destitution …” because the WorldCat record OCN 18250295 is for the resource of the latter title.
Based on this investigation, we conclude version 4 is the version with the correct OCN. To restore to version 4, select version 4 and use “Restore Metadata.” Save the record, then, overlay the Alma record with the WorldCat record, OCN 728332.
