-ER holdings and WorldCat Daily Updates discussion with CDL

Information sharing

5 min.

@Catherine Busselen

Gem Stone (CDL), Liz Miraglia (CDL), Catherine, Hermine, Ryan and Kevin Balster met to discuss -ER holdings, as well as the potential of centralizing our WDU management.

Liz will be looking into options for CDL management of WDU/WorldShare accounts for CDL.

Gem and Kevin Balster will be talking to ExLibris about the options for setting holdings for -ER (likely using a single symbol) based on NZ.

Records that get rejected for WDU are not a concern from CDL’s perspective as these would just go into an error file and be ignored.

Investigation/troubleshooting of why records are rejected would be difficult, as something to keep in mind given large size of ER holdings

Working on centralizing management of the WDU

allUC Normalization #1 rule update (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1I8YJJiAf9LFLEcZdqm26kVHU12ff3qAQkVFzsjeO5HE/edit?usp=sharing)

Determine if we need to update any/all 856 rules; Do we need to do some cleanup?

10 min.

@Catherine Busselen

Indication rules created to filter out 856 with second indicators 0, 1, 8 and blank

2603 NZ records have second indicator 0; 26 records have 856 second indicator 0 and either subfield g or h; 2110 include subfield u

Feel free to test norm rules.

(This subfield would be used mainly for removing invalid links in the record, but this is not something that is given high priority to catalogers, as they aren’t clicked on very much)

OK with adding norm rule; individual campuses can look at what they have and clean up as needed

Work Plan: Resource Management Review

Determine what to focus on next

@Catherine Busselen

  • WorldCat Daily Updates (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ly4wbwf0JbJsYNKl9IMiFPF-riYQNJkcHZGA_7A3_GM/edit?usp=sharing)

  • Policy for managing Linked Data in Alma

  • Review effect of LC lack of $v subdivisions with preference for lcgft in discovery; determine if recommendation from RM for discovery configuration is needed - Ryan mentioned that there is a setting we can turn on so Primo will also pull up results based on authority 5XX fields, but it has to be applied at the NZ level.

  • Authority Control: will most likely continue into next year with Hermine as Chair; also will come up in IMS

  • Investigate new functionality for record retention in the NZ and make decisions about implementation

  • Unused bibs in the NZ

  • Review best practices for import profiles (with Acquisitions and E-Resources Operations Subteams?)

  • RDA implementation - making clear plan/policy statement for how we are doing this, and determining whether to apply to the consortium or to individual campuses?

  • Developing a system-wide, RDA-compliant cataloging manual for existing and new catalogers. Would have to be approved by SILS/RM, but a task force including members from CMCKG, RM, and other interested folks who have experience writing policy statements could be formed. Q: What is the timeline for switching over to RDA? This determines level of priority. A: Training at UCB is starting in the summer and using PCC webinars to guide local training. RDA Toolkit will be taken offline May 2027 so need to be implemented before then. Goal to put out a system-wide reminder by May 2026 (as a recruiting mechanism) so there’s a year for a task group to develop documentation with a year to complete. Sarah (DOC rep), Caitlin, Catherine and Adam to meet and discuss next steps and approvals? Emphasis on the fact that this supports best practice harmonization and each campus would have to do this on their own anyway, so cuts down on redundancy

Identified priorities:

  • Review effect of LC lack of subdivisions and put out recommendations

  • Communication about unifying training/documentation on RDA implementation
