UC AFN CONSORTIA BLOCK DRAFT DECISION PAGE Feedback

RS OSTers to have enough info to give feedback

15

Linda Michelle

Please provide your written feedback via: this listserv using this feedback link:

AFN CONSORTIAL BLOCK DRAFT DECISION PAGE FEEDBACK

Does it make sense to apply blocks just based on fines? It takes a while to apply payment.

The idea behind the page is to block AFN requesting and how libraries treat their internal blocks would be up to them.

Smaller campuses don’t have the staff to maintain manual blocks daily.

Issue with exporting fines to the bursar and disappearing from Alma.

Feedback via the listserv is preferred so send it there. The group needs the information about why this would or would not work for your campus to move forward.

Berkeley endorses the recommendation.

AFN Conversion Process (from ILL CKG) aka Jason being crabby

discuss additions to process

10

Jason/Sabrina

Risk to AFN conversions: with the standard resource sharing version all the other lenders are in the queue behind it but for lender-created transactions there is no backstop so if you do it and go to the shelf and find the book isn’t there then there’s a possibility the request fails silently.

What should happen: do an AFN conversion only when you actually have the book in hand.

Keep that in mind when training and writing up documentation.

Ok to use VDX when the AFN conversions won’t work (like when a Network patron can’t be created for one reason or another)

The Discovery OST requests the Resource Sharing OST’s feedback on this decision page: CDI Limit by Availability [Phase 4 delegated]

What feedback to give to D OST?

Jason

Many ‘questions’ in page call out ILL - are they seeking answers? are their questions answerable? (Alison)

The page seems very interface-centric. The pros and cons seem on point.

Con: annoying when people place requests for material they won’t be able to get

Pro: easy to allow people to place a request for something that’s not in the UC. Also the citation can be good which helps us in ILL find the thing the person wants.

No way to resolve that tension between offering discovery of many things but also tempering expectations of what we can actually obtain.

Seems like we agree with the recommendation against harmonization - harmonizing is not a priority for ILL.

Reminder: Sandbox Refresh on 2/12

Will need to refresh SandBox for VDX test instance linking

For those doing Tipasa testing - on your own (sorry!) to copy/refresh Tipasa testing configs

case: 06496116: Request Sharing Request form incorrectly populates 'article title' field (see email from Alison 1/25/23)

ExL responded on this (slightly) elderly ticket about the RS Request form incorrectly populates 'article title' field. They claim they can’t reproduce it & would like to test in our environment.

Is anyone willing/able to give them access into your IZ (or maybe your sandbox) so that they can try it out?

2

Jason

ExL has moved this ticket along, someone gave them access and it’s now in Development

Comment bomb on ExL Idea Exchange : https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308173-alma/suggestions/40155142-ability-to-run-analytics-reports-on-alma-configura

document to gather up config tables we’d like to see in Alma Analytics:

Creates the ability to efficiently analyze settings centrally.

Alison emailed the group to seek this feedback.

8

Hold shelf notice delay

Alma allows you to configure a delay between when an item is scanned onto the hold shelf and when the patron receives the letter that it’s there. For this to impact AFN loans this has to be configured at the lender.

Would like to consider implementing this in some way across campuses.

5

Mallory

This will apply to all holds, not just AFNs

Some campuses already have this enabled.

UCSC will draft a decision page and bring it to the group for discussion. Will likely also involved fulfillment.

9

Wrap up

Review actions and decisions

SANDBOX REFRESH Feb 12, 2023 - will have to redo any Tipasa configs! as well as VDX test config for sb And also any Staff test accounts for Alison/Joe/CDL as well as any related test patron accounts that may have been set up in the Sandbox only for CDL testing access.

Bike Rack

Capture important topics for future discussion

‘pick up anywhere exceptions’: review shared messages, what would be next steps
metrics on how often ‘pick up anywhere’ requests have to be changed to home campus (Jason) → may lead to: editing pu loc for this requests → may lead to: harmonizing bookbands

is the “randomized” part of the rota building actually randomizing things? Jason has a hunch that within the geographical groups it’s creating them alphabetically. (discovered in reviewing schedule c report)

NRLF/SRLF rejected stuck at B/LA follow up: SH’s ‘guide’; test with what B/LA see; more escalation with ExL (scott, Mallory, Jason, patrick)

ExL’s solicitation to “contribute to the Resource Sharing Directory”. Kind of a huge thing that we should think about? (Mallory) → maybe after P2P investigation…
