2 | Discussion topic: Should we, as a system, use CDI to manage OA resources? | Define and describe PSELG next steps. | 10:06 - 11:15 am | all | PSELG members agreed at the previous meeting to meet with campus contacts to discuss the first question of the “Decision tree for discussion”. “Is the UC campus still committed to the Policies and Procedures for Shared Cataloging, Linking, and Management? (yes / yes with revisions / no)” Framework for discussion in PSELG: Prior to the discussion on 11/30/20, review the document, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12bELTjd6TSW4nBaMDEcjU0C9vRMcTPNQiO4EqQdZk7w/edit?usp=sharing Roundrobin report; each member summarizes discussion at their campus Identify salient themes/issues Not sure that PSELG is the proper group for dealing with this topic. Could be TSELG, Discovery, CDL, JSC or some combinations Overall policies are ok but need revisions; good time for review Definitions of OA and examples need to be updated. Only deals with journals, articles, and books, not eg. datasets Need to revisit nomination process, criteria, efficiencies; quality of content, standards for records, identifying duplication; local cataloging & decisions; workload/bandwidth for keeping up Not everything that’s OA should be cataloged but what is line? Maybe only catalog what we pay for (including OA) What is relationship to / role of eScholarship? What are user expectataions? Don’t overcomplicate for them Can we try one way and change/pivot? CDL will do whatever works for campuses

3 | Wrap-up and next steps | Review actions and assignments | 11:16- 11:25 am | all | Maybe reframe original question as 2 questions: Cataloging not same as indexing. SCP needs to look at definitions for what we catalog as OA. This can be divorced from SILS and taken to JSC. Was just revised in 2019 but some JCS members we consulted with so far recognize it needs to be revisited in light of SILS and definitions need to be updated. How do we manage CDI? This is a combination technical services (quality) and public services (discovery) issue. Want to use as many tools and resources from ExLibris as possible. Need to investigate further what to turn on and off. Can be overwhelming and decisions can get lost in campus structure. Might want to consult with other campuses who have implemented like Minnesota and CSUs. Will need other groups to weigh in and not sure which group should have final authority. Perhaps a new group like the new SILS governance group that is being formed since there is time (ie. this does not impact go-live)?
