Recommendations

Discovery FG recommends harmonizing on the following branding elements in Primo VE:

  • Each campus will include their own branding in the Logo area of Primo VE

  • Each campus will incorporate the UC Library Search wordmark in the top section of Primo VE.

    • Next to the campus branding in the logo area OR to the left of the search box are recommended options

    • Campuses may choose any color variation available within the Resource Lake, ensuring adequate contrast with their background color

    • Campuses should follow the wordmark usage guidelines

  • Each campus may customize their Primo VE fonts and color scheme (eg. to correspond to the local campus or library website color scheme) in accordance with accessibility standards

Reasoning

  • We want to provide a balance between incorporating individual campus identity while maintaining end user awareness of the UC Library Search system identity

Background

The SILS Working Group was charged in phase 4 to “Consider systemwide/shared branding of the SILS and when changes should be made (i.e. before or after implementation)”. The Working Group selected the name “UC Library Search” and this name was approved by CoUL.

Proposal: Discovery FG should make a recommendation on Primo VE user interface branding elements and how to incorporate the UC Library Search system name.

Working assumptions:

  • Campuses need/want to include their campus identity in their Primo VE system

  • It is desirable to include the UC Library Search system name in all campus instances

Dependencies

Established graphics and identity guidelines for the UC Library Search wordmark

Questions considered

  • To what extent, if any, should the look/feel (colors, fonts, etc.) be harmonized between campuses?

  • Where should the UC Library Search wordmark be placed? And should this placement be harmonized?

  • Should all campuses use the same wordmark color?

  • What accessibility factors should be considered, e.g., color contrast?
