UCI’s new use of ALMA for DDS demo scheduling Linda Michelle Weinberger

Ex Libris has scheduled training events. The schedule is in Basecamp. This involves exercises and an additional discussion for follow-up questions.

Only Elizabeth and Joe have access to Basecamp. More information may surface in the next few days.

Elizabeth moved the most relevant training information to a Google site linked to our Google Drive. Other milestones and dates are shown here as well.

UCI might be returning to the library buildings in mid/late July. At this point they will be able to put DDS into practice. At which point they will be able to demo those processes.

Tentative dates: Between August 9 and 20 for a demo to our group.

It might be that UCI serves as the model for DDS on other campuses. UCI is using DDS for curbside pick-up and digitization. Actual delivery would occur once the libraries re-open.

UCR is also looking at implementing DDS through Alma.

The decision page on this doesn’t need to go into incredible detail and can link to additional documentation.

• Start the DDS decision page in advance of the demo.

• Members should let Elizabeth or Joe know what additional trainings they would like access to.

• Homework: Members should look at the first training before July 1.
• Linda Michelle Weinberger will coordinate with individuals at UCI regarding a DDS demo.
• Linda Michelle Weinberger will start drafting a decision page for DDS.

Discuss a way forward for the decision page for Vanguard. There are three options, but we might want to only consider 2.

Three options have been outlined for ILL service.

Integrating Request would allow for some customizable code.

There doesn’t appear to be any benefits to option three outlined in the linked document. There appears to be consensus on this.

There are some potential complications with Elsevier and HathiTrust links. This would require customization. Request currently handles all of this. These features are needed now and may not be able to be implemented in Option 1.

UC Davis has linked HathiTrust full-text links with Primo. Surfacing ETAS links requires system access to campus overlap reports.

Forms filled out early in the process indicated that we would proceed with Option 1. If we want to pivot for the Vanguard, that would have to be communicated to Ex Libris soon.

Request currently handles special queues like Elsevier and HathiTrust ETAS links. It is a custom platform that would allow us to add features later.

It’s possible that CDL wouldn’t be available to help even if we were able to try Option 2 during the Vanguard.

• Joe is going to work with Ex Libris to investigate if there are any technical difficulties or unseen complications.
• Elizabeth will communicate that the FG would prefer Option 2 to PPC tomorrow and see if there is potential to pivot for the Vanguard.
