DISCOVERY VISION: We strive to design and implement the best possible discovery and delivery experience for our end users using data-driven decision making. We envision a network zone experience that will allow users to discover library materials across UC collections without sacrificing relevant results. As such, the default search and results interface should prioritize the success of typical users while providing additional functionality for more advanced users.

  • Josephine checked in with the chair of Fulfillment (Liz Rodriguez, UCLA). They are postponing their (Vanguard) Decide how to integrate an ILL broker with Alma decision that was scheduled for last week. Her co-chair is bringing in more information from Ex-libris that could change their initial preference (option 1 on their decision page.) They don’t need anything from us at the moment.

  • Josephine checked in with PPC - Caitlyn Nelson said our Network Scope and Consortia Union View decision should be done by mid-Oct

Waiting to hear back from Fulfillment- will contact when they need us to consult

Add: functional testing, system performance (load test), Aeon, document delivery & NLRF/SLRF, compare this with go-live checklist

Move up FRBR & Dedup Recommendations

Indicate what decisions are made at what level (IZ, consortial)

Subcommittees' Reports for Primo VE Branding

Share and discuss each subcommittee’s report

40 min

All

Environmental Scan: Ellen, Lisa, Chizu

Looked at 4 consortia, 5 UC Alma campuses (20 sites total) All branded w/ own logo except CSU-OneSearch

Search showed up in all names- 7 campuses used Library Search

Discovery, Discover also used

Some distinct names, one offs

Left facets (17) more common than right (3)

Campuses <20K students more likely to default to everything

Who made the decision about branding for current Alma campuses?

  • UCI- design services team decided

  • UCD- web group/interface group already had this setup

  • UCR- Library catalog, went with more generic, logo in line w/ campus branding

  • UCSB-campus identity kit, but were also “just told'

  • UCSC-Library search, generic, differentiate from CruzCat- Library Catalog most commonly used terminology, used color palette/style guide

Literature Review for best practices: Heather, Elizabeth, Michael

  • not a lot of research addressing the process of deciding upon names/branding

  • primarily articles

  • research reflected the conversations that we’ve been having

  • consortium probably the most useful; some of the single campus case students may have some take-aways

Accessibility/SEO: Sarah, Sharon, Jared

Accessibility:

  • very little that we do have control over but Pimo has done a good job

  • Recommendations toward the bottom of this document

SEO:

  • Ability to configure/optimize sitemaps

    • Note best practices

  • See Ex Libris release notes in doc.

  • When doing sitemaps- emphasize unique materials

  • Can configure profiles- search profile, publication profile

  • Determine guidelines/recommendations for schema.org

Who creates the sitemap for each campus?

SS- systems department, obtained sitemap index.

Next steps:

Gather feedback to inform recommendations- use checklist?

Provide documentation/data to support recommendations

Strive for consistency- do not want to duplicate work or consistency may be required (ILL lending); be aware of cases where deviation may be need to meet a unique need of the UCs or specific campus

Bring recommendations to local implementation teams for feedback
