  • Alma Analytics demo on October 12 (agenda on Basecamp)

  • Thoughts on SILS Vanguard October Technical Services Workshop

SILS Vanguard workshop was useful. The trainer was quite knowledgable and got specific about Alma functions, whereas the EL Project Team is usually talking Alma at a higher level. Alma is very integrated; doing something in one area (i.e., Acquisitions) often has impacts on other areas (i.e., Resource Mgt). The trainer showed the potential of using the product in an ideal way.

There will be a repeat workshop in the winter for the non-Vanguard libraries.

Links will be sent out to recordings of all the sessions.

Past trainings have not been prescriptive which has resulted in new Alma libraries using Alma in a less than ideal way.

Joshua Chaim Hutchinson (Unlicensed) will share the link on using Analytics to manage physical inventory.

Resource Management FG will be making decisions about the testload throughout October. See Test Load Decision calendar.

Special Collections wants Finding Aids to be visible. How we configure discovery in Primo affects Alma data decisions.

There are records for “mixed” holdings - regular location and Special Collections location.

Special Collections group is discussing removing OCLC #s so records will not be linked to the NZ and local data will not be lost. There are two concerns. (1) Record enhancements that apply to the master record have been added to local records and never added to the master record; so, this data is not local data. These enhancements do not display in master records. (2) Some local data has not been tagged as such.

If OCLC numbers are removed from Special Collections records, it will result in separate record displays for campus Special Collections items.

User searching results depends on search scope used. Results also depend on FRBR configuration. Primo merges records for FRBRization.

Biggest implication of whether records are included in the NZ or not is with the Fulfillment Network.

We will publish a blog post of Data Cleanup recommendations.

UCSF question: How did SCP make coverage to generate portfolios? Was there mapping done for SFX?

OCLC Workflow: Gateway export does not work for NZ unless one has OCLC credentials. WRLC moved OCLC records into MarcEdit and made changes there. Brought records into Alma through import profiles or MarcEdit/Alma integration.

Option to pay vendors for enhanced table of contents that include more information and good formatting than the usual TOC 505 field. Vendors prohibit sharing this data. One option - move this data to local 9xx field. Users can view the local data in the campus Primo instance. Ryan shared an example: http://roger.ucsd.edu/record=b4210276~S9

TJ suggests sharing campus Primo links to facilitate exploring campus Primo instances across UC.

UCD staff have started adding local extensions to CZ records. This is helpful with orientation to moving to a NZ environment.
