DISCOVERY VISION: We strive to design and implement the best possible discovery and delivery experience for our end users using data-driven decision making. We envision a network zone experience that will allow users to discover library materials across UC collections without sacrificing relevant results. As such, the default search and results interface should prioritize the success of typical users while providing additional functionality for more advanced users.

PPC: approved our Primo VE Configuration Recommendations decision page on 3/12

Internal Training Subgroup: preparing for Primo VE workshop (week of 5/17) by aligning which training videos apply to corresponding sessions.

Public Services Escalation Group: At this group’s recommendation, the PPC has approved a new sub-team to be formed to deal with OA Discovery issues (mostly CDI discussions). The team will be 8-10 people from across UC Libraries.

Testing Plan Check-in

Test Phase Timeline

Add any testing plan notes for your campus in our Testing Plan folder in Google Drive

  • Boosting - add any examples of your campus' approach of testing scripts to this document

  • Functionality Testing - what are individual campuses doing for testing? Same scenarios as Vanguard? The work is distributed across many sub-groups and not identical across campuses. Internal communication about testing at the campuses is happening in different ways (Slack, email, Google docs, etc.).

UC-eLinks

Discuss re-name and logo

20 min

Go with “Get It @ UC”? Alternative idea: “Find @ UC”.

There is some concern among some at campuses that changing this now is an unnecessary workload (updating screenshots, LibGuides, etc.). Nearly all the work in changing the name/images will be done by CDL’s Discovery and Delivery staff.

Discovery FG members will look at what other institutions have done before we make a final decision.

Jess & Josephine meeting with Kimmy Hescock (UCD, SILS graphic designer) this Wed 3/17.

Ideas:

  1. Have a text (Get It @ UC) over UC gold color (similar to screenshot)

    OR

  2. Have a logo image (same size, and perhaps same shape) in UC gold, no yellow triangle, and have the text Get It @ UC replace the UC-eLinks text

Things to consider:

  1. Accessibility

  2. What will this "icon" look like in the upcoming new Basic WorldCat interface (see the 2nd screenshot in this draft decision page)

Alison Ray (CDL) provided the following info:

A problem specific with the new basic/premium interface is that the button color is tied to three other components

  • Buttons

  • Active tab

  • List header (primary color lightened by 27%)

  • Icons

WorldCat

Discuss Basic WorldCat Discovery

40 min

All

Draft decision pages

  1. WorldCat Scope

  2. (Go Live) What to do with Basic WorldCat Discovery

These pages are stand-alone for each campus. The logo can be whatever we want it to be. If we don’t link to the pages from anywhere, the only way people would find these pages would be through web searches or through stumbling through some obscure navigation pathways from the general WorldCat.org site. These basic WCD instances are inseparable from the libraries' subscriptions to FirstSearch (which we do not generally point users to).
