SILS Abbreviations
This glossary contains abbreviations for the UC Systemwide Integrated Library System (SILS).

CoUL | Council of University Librarians | The UC libraries’ representative committee with each campus UL and the AVP/ED from CDL. CoUL is the SILS project sponsor.. |
DCPT | Digital Collections Project Team | Reporting to the Operations Team, this time-limited team is responsible for optimizing the integration and findability of digital collections in the Primo VE discovery service (“UC Library Search”). |
DOC | Direction & Oversight Committee | The committee charged by the Council of University Librarians to help carry out the libraries’ strategies and priorities. DOC has oversight of the SILS. They manage the SILS shared governance appointment & nomination process and will help foster campus and systemwide cross-communication. |
DPSPT | Data Privacy and Security Project Team | Reporting to the Leadership Group, this time-limited team establishes criteria for when issues should be brought to the team and the process for doing so. It considers and develops recommendations, establishes pathways for recommendations to be forwarded to SILS Leadership Group for approval and adoption. And once decisions are made, establishes a workflow for implementing and communicating them to the SILS Cohort and campuses. The Team also develops a proposal for implementing a training series. |
LG | Leadership Group | Reporting to DOC, the LG leads the systemwide strategic direction for the SILS and fosters teamwork and cohesiveness throughout the SILS structure, reaffirming the SILS principles and supporting the evolution of effective, shared work practices. |
OST | Operations Subteams | Reporting to the Operations Team, the OSTs are responsible for making standardization decisions in each of these functional areas:

OT | Operations Team | Reporting to the Leadership Group, the OT leads and coordinates the systemwide operational use of the SILS, including the Network Zone. The team works in partnership with the SILS Operations Center at CDL to carry out the vision, strategies, priorities and policies established by the SILS Leadership Group. OT is also charged to:

RCPT | RLF Configuration Project Team | Reporting to the Operations Team, this time-limited team will investigate the best way to configure RLF materials in the SILS and make recommendations in a final report by fall 2022. |
SILS | Systemwide Integrated Library System | The name for UC’s coordination of a shared library system. |
SILS Project Phase 4 Terms

ELGs | Policy & Practice Escalation Leader Groups | Reporting to the PPC, the overarching responsibility of all ELGs is to support and assist the PPC, FGs and other phase 4 shared governance groups with high level policy and decision making: There are three ELGs:

EUOS | End-User Outreach Subgroup | Reporting to the TOC, this subgroup will manage and support the ways in which libraries coordinate outreach to our varied patron populations, including a public relations campaign and training materials. |
FGs | Policy & Practice Functional Groups (FGs) | Reporting to the PPC, the FGs are responsible for making implementation standardization decisions in each of these functional areas:

IC | Implementation Coordinators | Reporting to the WG, the ICs manage the systemwide implementation of the SILS, including the applicable timeline, in coordination with the SILS Working Group and vendor. ICs serve as their primary campus contacts. ILSDCS and PDS report to the Implementation Coordinator Group. |
ILSDC | ILS Data Cleanup Subgroup | Reporting to the ICs, this sub-group identifies ILS data management and data preparation tasks that can be completed prior to migration to the shared Ex Libris system. In addition, ILSDCS will carry out the recommendations from the SILS Harmonization Pilot completed during phase 3, oversee quality control guidance, and possible corrective data updates. |
IT | Internal Training Subgroup | Reporting to the TOC, this subgroup develops and guides the execution of a comprehensive training plan for all UC Libraries’ staff who work in the ILS and discovery platform. |
PD | Patron Data Subgroup | Reporting to the ICs, this sub-group is charged with identifying and inventorying current patron data sources and system integrations, as well as patron data management tasks that can be completed prior to migration. |
PPC | Policy & Practice Coordinators | Reporting to the WG, the PPC guides system-wide decision-making priorities which reflect requests from the Implementation Coordinators as well as decisions needed to complete vendor checklists and forms. |
PM Leads | Project Manager Operation Leads | Reporting to the WG, the PM Leads manage and refine the overall project timeline as well as the overall project Responsibility Assignment Matrix (i.e., RACI). |
SILS | Systemwide Integrated Library System | The project name for UC’s coordination of a shared library system. Phase 4 of the SILS project will focus on implementation, review of policies and practices to determine when to standardize and when to retain localized approaches, training and outreach, and planning post-go-live SILS shared governance. With the submission of the working group’s final phase 4 report, the “SILS Project” will become “the SILS,” our UC Libraries enterprise system. |
SILS-SC | Systemwide Integrated Library System steering committee | The steering committee for the SILS working group. The SILS-SC plans agendas for the SILS working group and tracks major project deliverables. The group includes the co-chairs, co-project managers. |
SILS-WG | Systemwide Integrated Library System Working Group | Reporting to CoUL, the working group oversees the SILS project for the Council of University Librarians (CoUL). |
TOC | Training and Outreach Coordinators | Reporting to the WG, the TOC’s primary role will be to oversee systemwide training for UC Libraries’ employees and guide the ways in which the libraries approach systemwide end user outreach. |
