67 | Accessibility and SILS | | 10 | Brian | Brian (and Sylvia) attended a UC Berkeley WebNet meeting on Zoom accessibility. It was great and there are a few key takeaways: We should be asking if people require accommodations If someone requests an accommodation, we have to provide it. This includes if they request an ASL interpreter or CC, we can’t choose which to provide, they do Should set expectations for when to have accommodations requested by
Auto-captions are not sufficient to meet accessibility standards, but are useful (particularly if you enable the live transcript, which shows who is talking and was much better than just the captions) They generally do not revise the automatically generated transcript unless someone complains or they know it is poor quality
[Joanna] From Steering: include accessibility statement, handle requests on a case-by-case basis. How quickly will they be able to address requests (1 week before, 2 weeks before, etc)? Web accessibility - how accessible do we need to make things? What is the standard SILS wants to provide?
