Primo VE Release Schedule

Ex Libris has quarterly feature releases which introduce new features into Primo VE. These features may benefit SILS but may involve tradeoffs. Discovery has decided to dedicate each meeting after a feature release for reviewing the release notes and determining if any additional action should be taken.

Why are we waiting till after the release to review?

• Release notes usually aren’t available until it’s already been released in the sandbox and do not allow enough time for testing prior to the production release.

• Our premium sandboxes do receive the release two weeks ahead of time. However, our sandbox behavior does not always replicate production behavior, particularly if the sandboxes are in a different state from production or if the new feature requires re-indexing.

• Most new features are an “opt-in” so they are turned off until/if we are ready to evaluate their effectiveness.

Discovery may choose to meet earlier if we become aware of a large change and have enough information to discuss ahead of time.

Review of Release Notes

• Discovery members will plan to read the release notes ahead of time.

• Prior to the meeting, the Discovery chair will post a poll to Slack asking campuses to vote if they are interested in talking about a particular feature and/or plan to test it

• At the meeting members will discuss only the features that were voted for in the Slack poll.

• Additional meetings and testing will be scheduled if needed.

• If any campuses indicate they plan test a specific feature, the group will check back approximately mid-release cycle to get an update on the progress of testing or results.

Regression Testing of Campus Customization

Regression testing will need to be campus by campus but representatives can share their findings with Discovery.
