DEIA Resources and Training for Cataloging, Metadata and Discovery
This is a curated list of resources and training materials for improving diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in library cataloging, metadata, and discovery. These resources consist primarily of documentation from professional groups and committees, slides and recordings from professional presentations, and peer-reviewed articles. The list is intended to be dynamic, with a dedicated UC SILS group to maintain going forward. The majority of these resources are dated 2020 or later, and the list will be updated for currency and relevance. Policies, best practices, and ethical principles will remain on the list until superseded.
Links to Github documentation and slide presentations about specific projects are included here because the projects can be replicated and are valuable for considering the sorts of projects UC Libraries (UCL) or UC campuses may decide to implement. Resources that are specific to a system are either Alma or Primo VE related, the systems in use by UCL. Each resource is listed only once, even when more than one category may apply. General best practices are found in the Best Practices category while specific best practices are located under the corresponding topical category.
These lists were created by the SILS Ethical and Inclusive Metadata Practices in UC Libraries Search Phase 1 Project Team. This space is intended primarily for UC library staff and provides access to resources and training materials for addressing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in cataloging, metadata, and discovery.
This space is temporarily hosted on Confluence until a UCL sharing platform is identified.
