Description

When checking out items from another library in the AFN we are required to select the owner of that item from a drop down on the loan screen. Each option currently starts with "University of California" which takes up most of the menu real estate, depending on window size. We would like to propose changing the options to display standardized, but shorter names for the UCs.

Decision

Change drop down menu names of owning institutions that display on the item checkout screen from “University of California XXX” to “UC XXX”. This change does not affect the facets display in Primo.

Recommendation

Request that Ex-Libris change drop down menu names of owning institutions that display on the item checkout screen from “University of California XXX” to “UC XXX”. The change is made using a centrally defined table that can be configured by Ex Libris team only. No IC configuration is required.

When we check out items from another library in the AFN we are required to select the owner of that item from a drop down on the loan screen. Each option currently starts with "University of California" which takes up most of the menu real estate, depending on window size. The location that follows the phrase is what we need to be easily visible.

Questions to consider

Where else will changes to the institution name will be visible? Will this change also affect the location options in the Resource Sharing form in Primo? Or elsewhere in the Alma or Primo interfaces?
And is this change made in our IZs or the NZ or something Ex Libris needs to do elsewhere?

  • Ex-Libris Answer: There is a centrally defined table that can be configured by Ex Libris team only. Member institution names in drop-down in Alma and Primo VE come from this table.

  1. UC Libraries facets- Not Affected by This Change facets for institution name are coming from institution name in each institution configuration table - Alma Configuration - General - Add a Library or Edit Library Information.

  2. Pick up location in the Request form- member institution names are coming from NZ configuration of member institutions.
