Training Exercise
Instructions:
Using your sandbox, sign in as AlmaUser01. For this exercise, you may choose to either use the initial prompt to complete the activity on your own, or if you prefer, follow the step-by-step instructions.
Exercise: Create a normalization rule and run it on a set of records.
In the MD Editor, open a record that exists in the Institution Zone only that you want to edit
Press F6 (or click the Split Editor icon) to open the Split Editor.
Create a Normalization Rule to add a filed 900 with subfield a and certain text if the 900 field does not already exist with that exact subfiled and text
Click on File >> New Normalization Rule
Enter a name and check “Enabled” & “Shared”
Copy & paste example titled “Add a field using the pipe OR condition” from this list (or feel free to use a different rule or your own norm rule)
Click “Preview” to see if the normalization rule works as expected
If it does, save the rule
Add the normalization rule as a process
Sign in as Alma Administrator (username: AlmaAdmin)
Go to Alma Configuration >> Resources>> Cataloging: Metadata Configuration >> MARC21Bibliographic>> Normalization Processes Tab >> Add Process
On the Process Details - General Information screen: add Name and Description, click Next
Click Add Task, select “MarcDroolNormalization”, click Add and Close
Choose the rule you created from the “Drools File Key” dropdown and Save
Create a set of bibs that need to be updated with this normalization rule (It’s recommended that you use a small set of only a few records)
Run a job on the set created in the step above
Admin > Manage Jobs and Sets > Run a Job
The job you created will appear in the list and you can click through to run the job on all the records
