Recommendation
[preliminary recommendation: Do not enable “Upload Electronic Holdings” at this time; explore this option in phase 5.]
Background
The publishing vendors Ovid and Elsevier each offer a service that publishes what they believe to be UC entitlements to ERMS and link resolvers (such as Alma and SFX).
In UC’s current environment, this feature is not used, due to discrepancies and errors encountered at vendor sites.
Alma articles: Upload Electronic Holdings from Ovid; Upload Electronic Holdings from Elsevier; Upload Electronic Holdings from Springer
Dependencies
In order to enable this feature, a token is required from each vendor that would be enabled. If the feature is enabled at IZ level, a unique token per IZ would need to be acquired.
Questions to consider
Considering UC is not currently using this feature, is implementation a good time to explore new functionalities?
How much time and complexity would this add to UC’s testing burden?
If decided to move forward: should this feature be activated at all or some (opting in approach) IZs or at the NZ? (ExL recommends “You may need to confirm with vendors how they provide consortia subscription holdings. “)
