Deduplication with Electronic Resources

Description

Sometimes CDL managed portfolios are not correctly appearing in a campus’ Primo VE. One example is The promise of access : technology, inequality, and the political economy of hope  The first result is a CDI record.  The second result is for a bib that was contributed to the network zone and this campus does not have any holdings for.  This second record says “Available Online”.  Clicking into the record does not provide a view it link and exiting back to the search makes the “Available Online” link disappear.

'It appears that the issue is with dedup. We see that "View It" services don't display for the dedup record composed of electronic and physical records when the displayed record (one that appears in the search results) is the one for physical.’

Work Around

If the campus’s deduplication preferred record is set to “Physical” then change it to preferred “Electronic” for now.

Alma Configuration > Discovery > Display Configuration > Configure Views > Edit view > Brief Results > Scroll down to the bottom.

New information, April 2022: The workaround doesn’t seem to work. When Electronic is selected, print sometimes doesn’t show up. This issue is being widely reported on the Alma and Primo Listserves. The current workaround is to simply turn off deduplication because the deduplication groups are not providing correct access.
