Updates (please add in advance)

15 mins

All

Cancelling 12/22 meeting: some campuses have extra curtailment for the holiday break so we should just cancel now.

UCB has a spreadsheet Key of Local Fields, if people would like to look at it: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16u7SrNJ2HkuO_4BW6-iG-O4Gx7ScLbaHruGIjQCqH4c/edit#gid=0

  • Shi reported that there is a new channel in Slack for CDI business.

  • TJ reported that UCD Law Library is on Sierra ILS, not Alma, and might load at a different time? Ex Libris is aware.

  • Hermine reported that Ex Libris solved a problem with P2E and the 856 indicator values.

OCLC Updates

Initial campus reactions? Hermine compared a small sample (~30 records) and found improvements for about 90%, but also at least one serious error (wrong edition) introduced, from the OCLC master records.

There is no rush on this matter, as a decision can wait until closer to the Test Load.

The second update will focus on updating NZ records submitted by UCB.

Liz will load a second file this week and ask for feedback.

Bib record management in the NZ

Review test template, field questions

What questions have come up at the campuses about how we work in the NZ?

  • Who will have import privileges for the NZ?

  • How will import profiles work?

  • Will batch loads be allowed, and if so, by whom?

  • How will updating holdings in OCLC work?

  • Will campuses need to notify others if they edit serial records, for example?

  • Will copy cataloging consist mainly of just adding locations?

Do we want to draft an initial policy document that can be adjusted throughout test load?

  • Yes, we need to start thinking about outlining recommendations now, for Test Load and Go-Live.

  • The discussion page in Google Drive can stay, but some guidelines should be published on Confluence to allow catalogers to refer to them.

  • The guidelines/best practices should include normalization, merge, and indication rules.

  • We should be trying to sync with OCLC, as policy, although there are lots of bad records there.

  • Jean asked about Green Glass, since UCB is going to start using it, but no other campus is using it. Alma Analytics might have some functionality for analyzing holdings.

Which campuses are excluding special collections records, or other large batches of records?

  • Excluding: UCB, UCSD (special collections and ProQuest government documents records), CDL (excluding EEBO records)

  • Not excluding: UCD, UCI (except for a large microfiche set), UCLA, UCM, UCR, UCSB (for Test Load), UCSC, UCSF (excluding ETD urls and NRLF records)

When does your campus need documentation?

Liz will create a document to start this process and to solicit feedback from the other functional groups.
