Recommendation
We recommend campuses not enable the “Exclude eBooks from CDI Results” feature, as described in the November 2021 Primo VE Release Notes, at this time.
Reasoning
There may be cascading consequences for implementing the new “Exclude eBooks from CDI Results” feature. Brief consultation with PPC and eResources staff indicated that this feature could have implications for eBook collections in the NZ (particularly those that are link-in-record), decisions around eBook cataloging, and collections such as CRL where we are relying on CDI for eBook records.
Discovery FG acknowledges that there is some dissatisfaction around CDI eBook records. Duplicative search results caused by these records can result in a negative user experience.
We recommend the eResources Operations Sub-Team in consultation with the Discovery Operations Sub-Team investigate the consequences to internal processes and evaluate potential impact on the end user experience created by the new “Exclude eBooks from CDI Results” feature.
