Recommendation
There is a lot of excitement around Alma Analytics, and the increased access to systemwide data has long been one of the driving factors for the SILS Project itself. The Policy & Practice Coordinators (PPC) group is seeing increased interest and engagement in analytics from SILS cohort and non-cohort staff members, and wishes to put some informal structure in place to guide discussion and work in analytics. The PPC therefore recommend the creation of an Analytics Point Person (APP) role in each FG and a forum for analytics discussion.
Members: At least one member from each PPC FG, one from SILS Operations Center at CDL, and possibly one each from the two data groups (patron and cleanup). An APP should have interest and expertise in data analytics, reporting, etc. Expertise in Alma Analytics is not required.
Engagement & Communications: We anticipate at least an initial meeting with all point people to get organized, and a Slack channel for regular communication. This is expected to be a fairly low-bandwidth responsibility.
Responsibilities: The primary responsibility of this position is to be a point person for receiving inquiries about analytics related to their respective functional group, and to facilitate discussion of reporting as relates to systemwide opportunities to the greater APP group. Initial inquiries should be discussed primarily within the FG itself, and cross-functional reporting needs can be brought up through the PPC.Â
The collective APPs do not comprise a decision-making body or group. That responsibility lies with the FGs and the PPC. Rather, this is a role within each FG meant to facilitate communication. This is also not a recommendation-making group - again, that responsibility lies with the FGs and the PPC. If the PPC sees a need for a recommendation it may delegate the work as needed to respective cohort members.Â
Duration: This role will exist until the end of Phase 4 (December 23, 2021).
