Recommendation
UC SILS will not be participating in the March 2022 round of NERS voting, and will instead focus on creating a process for the June 2022 round of NERS voting.
Impact
Stakeholder group | Impact |
---|---|
SILS Cohort | UC SILS will not be adding votes to the creation of an enhancement shortlist |
Campuses with ELUNA individual membership | Campuses with ELUNA individual memberships can still vote in the March 2022 shortlist round with independent autonomy. |
Reasoning
The March 2022 round of voting is to whittle down the list of enhancements from ~200 to ~20. Other ELUNA members will do a fine job of selecting appropriate enhancements for the shortlist, and we can spend our resources on other SILS projects and in the creation of a more robust voting process for June 2022 in the meantime.
Background
The New Enhancement Request System (NERS) voting process is overseen by ELUNA annually. It represents the possibility of member-submitted enhancement requests entering the Ex Libris development stream for Alma and Primo products. Alma and Primo voting take place simultaneously, in two rounds:
March 2022 (three week voting period) where a list of all enhancements is whittled down from around ~250 to ~20 (with top-ranked entries accruing 2000-3000 votes, and least-ranked shortlist entries accruing 500-600 points. See: https://igelu.org/primo-ners-voting-2nd-round/ for anecdotal evidence);
June 2022 (two week voting period) where the shortlist is used to select the final 4-7 enhancements.
The number of votes within the UC system (according to https://eluna40.wildapricot.org ) is currently 100 points each to: UC SILS Consortium, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz. That is, all the previously-on-Alma campuses are still holding individual memberships as well as being covered by the consortial membership, while all the new-to-Alma campuses are only under the consortial membership. Coordinating our votes would be the most impactful for choosing enhancements, but coordination requires a high effort and buy-in; splitting our votes would be easier, but would dilute the power of the UC Libraries to choose enhancements.
