NZ Tips
Shared Folders
Like every IZ Analytics, the Network Zone has a Shared Folder. In our case the folder is called University of California System 01UCS_NETWORK.
Everyone with an NZ Analytics account has access to add, delete, and edit reports in this folder.
DO NOT modify anyone’s folder or work. Instead, copy the report to your own folder:
Locate the report you wish to copy.
Click the More drop down and choose Copy.
Browse to your own folder location.
Click the Paste buton on the toolbar.
Verify your report runs correctly. If there are feeder reports, or something similar, you may need to copy them also.
Any campus IZ Analytics which has enabled their configuration to view NZ reports can also view, but not change, reports in this folder. Any reports located in the NZ Shared Folder area, but run in the IZ, will only return IZ accessible data.
Useful Fields and Folders
Institution
When using NZ Analytics it will default to retrieving information from both the network zone and all campuses. Unless you intend to retrieve information for the entire UC system, one of the first things to do when creating or modifying a report is add an institution filter. The Institution folder is the last folder listed in every subject area. Either Institution Code or Institution Name are fine to use as a filter.
Linked to NZ
The Linked to NZ field can be used to determine if a campus record is linked to a network zone bib record. Reminder, this will always be “No” for NZ records because they aren’t linked to themselves.
Network Id
If a campus bib record is linked to the NZ it will have a Network Id. The Network Id is the Network Zone’s MMS Id. This allows us to match campus records with NZ records. For example, every campus has a record for Molecular cell biology / and they’re all linked to the Network Zone whose MMS Id is 9912312181106531. As a result, while the campus MMS Id varies for each campus, the Network Id is the same:
Institution Name | MMS Id | Network Id |
UC San Diego | 991017714309706535 | 9912312181106531 |
University of California Berkeley | 991031725639706532 | 9912312181106531 |
University of California Davis | 990020160290403126 | 9912312181106531 |
University of California Irvine | 991026915409704701 | 9912312181106531 |
University of California Los Angeles | 9942010103606533 | 9912312181106531 |
University of California Merced | 991001153219706534 | 9912312181106531 |
University of California Riverside | 991024586129704706 | 9912312181106531 |
University of California San Francisco | 991001308019706536 | 9912312181106531 |
University of California Santa Barbara | 990021584420203776 | 9912312181106531 |
University of California Santa Cruz | 991014699359704876 | 9912312181106531 |
Available For Group
This field is useful for determining which campuses subscribe to specific CDL managed resources. If all campuses subscribe to a resource the Available For Group will usually be NULL. If a select number of campuses subscribe, the Available For Group will show each campus' abbreviation separated by a semicolon. For example:
Electronic Collection Id | Electronic Collection Public Name | Available For Group |
61394826590006531 | UCLA encyclopedia of Egyptology. |
|
61403070390006531 | Harper's Weekly: 1857-1912 | LBL; UCB; UCD; UCI; UCLA; UCM; UCR; UCSB; UCSC; UCSD; UCSF |
61403080260006531 | American National Biography Online | UCB; UCI; UCLA; UCR; UCSB; UCSC |
You may also see cases where the Available For Group only says UCOP. This is a placeholder for when CDL needs to evaluate the resource.
Portfolio Details for Consortia Members
Do not mix fields from this folder with other folders
Misc Information
Network Zone records do not have physical inventory. As a result, they will never appear in the Physical Items subject.
With rare exceptions, Network Zone bib records should have an OCLC number.
