Recommendation
RMFG will work with CDL to systematically add the following field to records identified by campuses as belonging to a bound-with or that otherwise might appear to be lacking inventory in the NZ (serial analytics, etc.):
910 $a Has related records [(campus)]
RMFG will develop normalization rules that can be applied in the NZ
Full procedures can be found here: Adding 910 notes to migrated bound-withs with "related records"
Campuses should have their sets saved in the Network Zone (see procedures above) before November 12, 2021.
Reasoning
The 910 can be used to ensure that bound-withs and other bibs with related records aren’t deleted during routine batch deletion processes because Alma does not currently account for them during those jobs. In addition, some of these types of bibliographic records may be merged with other records during batch processes out of necessity (e.g. to keep the NZ record in line with the OCLC master record).
RMFG had initially discussed trying to add the MMS IDs of related records and possibly barcodes to the 910 field but given the difficulties involved and the pressing need to protect bibs from deletion, the group agreed to a less complicated approach for the time being.
Background
Orbis and CSU offer their practices for marking BoundWith records so they don’t get deleted as orphans.
Create a Set of All Bound-with Records
Dependencies
Campuses will need a reliable way to do this in batch.
Make sure ASELG, Special Collections CKG, and CDL are on board
