End-user Name Subgroup

Report back to Discovery FG and EUOS on how our FG wants to be involved?

  1. If you would like to have a formal vote as a group, would you be willing to have a single member representative be on EUNS to contribute to the work and report back?

  2. If you would like to have a more “consulting” role, would you be willing to take a periodic look at our draft proposal and weigh in with comments / questions?

  3. Do you have some other ideas about your preferred way to consult with this group?

Elizabeth

Subgroup is tasked with recommending a single ecosystem “SILS” name for end users. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1s7DSl2Ah4kWJh_uaoQURF0fgx1S-ZLmsuz4Z5hE3-Nw/edit

Fulfillment FG is called out as a voting group who would need to approve the name before it goes to Working Group.

Given time constraints this group will take a consulting role.

Take a consulting role.

Labeling Decisions Pages for Test Phase and All Phases

Elizabeth

PPC meeting last Friday.

Decision pages will be labeled to indicate which phases the decisions apply to.

Should expired patrons be migrated too Alma?: Moves to all phases

Are we going to configure the UC Libraries as a fulfillment network?: Moves to all phases. Test phase will only include the automated fulfillment network.

Currently this is set up as an automatic fulfillment network and also allow for patron driven requests through Primo.

These requests are title based, not item based. The user has to indicate in the notes field which volume they need.

If we opt to add direct requesting later this allows for more testing time and potentially better implementation.

Single UC-wide patron record database or separate institutional patron database?: Moves to all phases.

Strategy for Resource Sharing with Worldshare ILL: New version written recently.

Decision about NCIP integration with VDX, which needs to go to the PPC.

Should this have its own decision page, or be included in

Joe

Although the GES isn’t perfect, it does work. In order to work well it requires NCIP integration. Current Alma campuses have this integration for borrowing.

Implementing this solution would cost each campus money. This would need to PPC and negotiations would have to take place with OCLC. There seems to be a one time cost as well as an ongoing annual cost.

UCI has two NCIP messages, other campuses only have one.

There are talks with the VDX team regarding a potential ISO or email integration as well. The ISO integration would require a lot of re-configuration of the GES and could have other implications after it goes into production.

Joe has one more meeting on Friday with someone from the VDX team to discuss these options.

Without NCIP there is more manual work with Alma.

Parking Lot

There are some questions around what other things this group might add to the parking lot. Expiration dates and whatnot.

  • We may need to revisit our discussion regarding what fields are passed between campuses in the Network Zone. (Name, email, expiry date, etc.)

  • The ICs were asking for more information about the GES, the decisions around it and how it might be set up.

  • There may be a way to use Iliad as a lender of a last resort and tie that into VDX with an adapter.

Members can add to the parking lot issues that they feel need to be considered or tracked.

Discovery Sub-Group: ILL UX

Discovery FG has split off into a few different subgroups. They are partnering with different FGs to explore different factors that effect Discovery.

These sub-groups will liaise with us for the month of November. With the goal of having configuration recommendations in by the break in December.

Their primary concern is that everything is as intuitive as possible. Especially to undergraduate students.

Scope: How does configuration impact what users are able to surface?

Materials in the IZ that are checked out locally,NZ scope, Worldcat scope.

Issues/Assumptions:

  • CDI content might be surfaced through CDI but delivered through CDI.

  • Worldcat scope is something that will be evaluated.

Elizabeth will give the Discovery sub-group access to our scripting documents and meeting recordings.

Future agenda items

Form requested by Ex Libris: what is our role in completing the form? what is the role of local implementation teams? (see )

Discussion with Discovery team about naming/labeling of UC Interlibrary Loan button.

Should we modify our decision page to recommend “Lender of last resort” as the preferred ILL integration model.

SILS ILL CKG and/or town hall resource sharing demo.

The SILS mission is to transform library services and operations through innovation and collaboration. The future is shared!
