2

Report back from SILS groups

Understand what other SILS groups and campuses are doing in relation to OA

5

All

  • E-Resources - We had a question about an SCP project on HathiTrust records, and if there is anything our group or the OARM-PT might do to help or need to be involved in with this

  • Discovery - No discussion yet. Just posted to Discovery Group Subteam Slack Channel last Friday. Will be added to upcoming agenda this coming Friday. Concern: need to teach public service librarians and patrons that searches can only be done in scopes that have the CDI turned on.

  • Resource Management -

  • Campus Updates -

  • Other (JSC, SCLG, CKGs, etc.) -

3

Project Team Check-in

Discuss as a group responses to the SILS Project Team Check-in form, due Friday, September 2nd

10

All

  • This will be filled out every qtr. Carla and Erica will fill out on behalf of the group and send the report back to Mallory Gianola.

4

Review OA resource workflow

Better understanding of the workflow from the Phase 2 report (pg 7)

35

All

  • How does the workflow connect/interface with the three models of work:

    • Example: Brill Open Access Books at UCR. Discovery and UX side…are there too many access points? (yes, probably). Q: who (at each campus) performs each step on this workflow chart?

    • Example: E-periodica, 61% overlap. What is the analysis that happens before we decide to turn on/off the collection?

    • Example: Making of America (mixed format with monos and books). Does mixed format matter? Not really addressed on workflow, but it is that important to note statistically for UCOP/ARL?

    • Example: Oral History from UCLA. Works locally but how does it work thru the NZ? How can that be shared across the campuses in an efficient manner?

  • Previous action item for all: Identify potential OA collections/scenarios to run through workflows

Parking Lot

Capture important topics for future discussion

Team

  • How to find items that are OA but have slipped thru the cracks, not being labeled OA?

  • Draft work plan document

  • Something coming from Discovery group

  • Discussion on CZ records

    • Quality can vary greatly

  • Another area is to rethink JSC and whether they want to continue approval role.

  • Considering ongoing maintenance of OA in Alma/Primo - who is responsible?

  • Statistics/Resource Management as related to the workflow (see agenda item 4, Making of America.)
