Question from Discovery

Discovery co-chairs agreed to this statement: Discovery is asking PSELG to determine who needs to be involved in the discussion and how it should be documented on the question of providing/not ILL request for a print book when an e-book is available. PSELG is not making a decision.

based on what we’re seeing in basecamp we think there’s confusion on the part of ExL about the actual question, it sounds like we would also like clarification of the question…

  • question in basecamp is also confusing b/c it overlaps with something UCM was turning on

what is prompting the question? is it seeing a bunch of campus' ebooks?

is this a policy question or a tech capability question?

  • if this is a policy issue, this is a campus-by-campus decision because it impacts our respective collection budgets

  • if tech: is there a way to specify in the form whether ONLY an ebook or ONLY a print book is desired?

  • if policy: what are the workflow implications for library staff?

Is this a FRBRization issue? And am I spelling that properly?

Fulfillment & intercampus RS functional group is quite busy right now--should we wait until ongoing governance groups are in place so that the Operations Team is in place and ready to act/support--do we need to make this decision now, or can it wait?

Sounds like campuses can turn this on individually for now, can also use a blank form to request (there are options for workarounds)

Discovery parking lot for now to address post transition, request that the issue be fleshed out for consideration by next group

Ask Discovery functional group to develop a problem statement and hand off to the SILS Operations Team
