Talking to other consortia

Question from UCB about barcodes/labeling and how it relates to their remote storage.

It would be worth talking to other consortias again (this was done before phase 4) but we have learned much more since that time. Lynn proposes reaching out to other groups to see if they are willing to talk to us and answer our questions.

Homework is to read docs here: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1yn19FxIVqxxDux1YDRHsPLexOEjhl3Nw

Create subgroup or shared document to develop questions to ask each consortia

Spreadsheet of ACAG consortia with Remote Storage

Lynne checked Alma consortia group and identified members with remote storage.

Discussion about the desire to contact ACAG consortia to see what’s working with them. Perhaps we can send a list of questions – UC was leading edge with AFN (although WRLC was the first).

Anna: In WRLC (9 independent DC-based institutions) each insitution purchases space and deposits into the storage facility and institutions retain ownership of materials. Initially had their own IZ with separate identifier, but there was pushback as some institutions wanted to retain the ability to scope items in their catalog. (They ultimately decided on our “Option 3” which we’re no longer considering.) They still transfer records between IZs.

Decided to send initial round of questions to select consortia, especially to identify AFN concerns.

We need to identify if any consortia have a separate IZ and whether insititutions keep their records on items in remote storage.

Sage shared the list of potential questions with this group and we worked on them https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nhhDhbQBKlg6rbTP99QjjYOvZzIQWAjJHT4DY56Bf1w/edit

We will also send the questions to Orbis/Cascade if we determine they have remote storage.

Sage and Lynne will send the revised questions to consortia as the co-chairs.
