Zoom Meeting with Steven Burke (ExLib)

Investigating Statistical User Categories as a possible solution to getting better stats, especially missing lending digital request information.

  • How would we go about implementing and testing this feature? (Maybe see a live demo/screen shots of how it looks and works?)

  • What Alma user roles are needed to implement?

  • Where does the statistical category information appear in analytics? (what subject areas & what fields inside those areas)

  • How could we undo the categories if we found negatives consequences?

  • Impact on other Resource Sharing methods (for example Peer 2 Peer  - same problem of missing lending info with this?)

All

  • How would we go about implementing and testing this feature? (Maybe see a live demo/screen shots of how it looks and works?)

    • ExL Documenation → includes link to doc with screenshots; everything available in Alma staff interface & available in Analytics next day; testing suggestion: try it out & see, should be benign

    • PD: what are risks of doing in prod vs sb? ; SB: stat categories just data, not functional, like tags. low risk to do in prod (note there are no analytics in sb)

    • JN: testing to make sure stat cat goes from IZ patron to Network patron record?; would jobs for network users be needed? what is expectation? If not, would ExL extend Alma?(SB: good enhancement suggestion) → SH check & user cat not coming through rn

    • SS/AMR: could we configure what data is shared to network record? (not every single stat cat needed on network user)

    • SB: stat cats don’t go automatically to network users; unknown: what’s shared & what is available in analytics

    • SH: could stat cat get added only to network user? SB: good idea to explore once framework is set up

    • JN: what kind of jobs could we use to get this data in? SB: suggests for category of ‘home inst’, in analytics all linked accounts show linked accounts & what category, then create job to add category (will supply more details via email) → can find ways, won’t be fully automatic

    • SB: user stat cat only in Analytics, not viewable in Alma, user stat cat not anonned; JN: need to get user stat cat onto network user stat cat, v. interested in SB’s suggestions

  • What Alma user roles are needed to implement?

    • SB: user admin or gen sys admin (in doc)

  • Where does the statistical category information appear in analytics? (what subject areas & what fields inside those areas)

  • How could we undo the categories if we found negatives consequences?

    • SB: yes, easily; can be done with batch job on users (can only update one category at a time), eg. make set of users & run job on those users; potentially come in from SSI

  • Impact on other Resource Sharing methods (for example Peer 2 Peer  - same problem of missing lending info with this?)

    • SB: not better or worse, but different; stat tracking would be better/easier; probably would have to run P2P reports to get this data in addition to AFN

Other reports (besides Schedule C) we will need from Alma (look at VDX/CDL run reports for ideas?)

dates (maybe later) → by months for reports

pick up from hold shelf rate for AFN items (from borrower side…)
