Sharing and Updates

Share any Discovery related information from other SILS groups

3

Slack Questions

Jackie (UCB): I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to share their WorldCat facet usage by user group? We are re-evaluating the placement of our WorldCat (it's in our advanced search menu, but not a left-hand facet) and other UC usage would be super helpful for us.

If possible, share WorldCat facet usage by user group with Jackie.

4

HathiTrust Follow-up

Determine next steps

Harvard’s Links to HathiTrust

Questions:

  • What are we trying to do here? Surface content or are we just trying to drive traffic to them?

  • Why are we hoping for more traffic?

  • Compare discovery between Harvard and one of the UCs and if Harvard has more resources being surfaced than us, then we look at.

Gem with follow-up with Paul and Renata with our questions.

5

Workplan

Select top 4 items Discovery is interested in working on this year.

Review the workplan, discuss and add missing items.

No missing items. We started to add an effort rating for each thing but determined almost every item was “high” effort.

Decided to focus for now on the top two items that are both high priority and high effort. We’ll see how this goes and then add more items later.

Jared and Gem will get together and come up with some ideas for how to approach this and bring it back to the group.

6

Tentative: UCLA Software Project Discussion

From Slack
”We are about to replace our invoicing system (Alma invoicing cannot provide what we need for services from special collections and SRLF) and will likely need to rebuild the library payments UI that connects to it (both systems are old in-house software). Given the problems with Primo’s display of multi campus loans, I am considering expanding the scope of the project to be a kind of patron account portal/dashboard that could display data from multiple sources: regular loans, ILL, fees, reserves?, etc.”

Joshua put together a project plan for what will happen if UCLA does it as an internal project. Then others could use as a jumping off plan.

Group homework: Ask around and see if other Alma customers have something like this.

UC Campuses: What is your invoicing software? Payment processing software? Anything else you might want to attach to a user dashboard.
