Sharing and Updates

15

Share any Discovery related information from other SILS groups

LG:

  • ExL Renegotiation Team

    • Interested in hearing about any campuses using Ex Libris products outside of SILS.

    • Concerned about how constrained we are with the number of staff accounts we’re allowed.

  • Data Privacy team turned in their report and it will be discussed at future meetings.

  • UC is running a security review on Ex Libris software.

OT:

  • Discussion of how common it is for campuses to have users with only one name.

  • Question about a way to hide local copy in Primo VE if it’s unavailable. (There’s a ticket open with ExL.)

  • Development for updating linked accounts in real time is likely not going to finish development till November 2024, for release in 2025.

  • Discussion of the Tipasa Testing document which we discussed last meeting. Some question of if Rapido could replace VDX instead of Tipasa but according to Alison Ray it would not connect directly enough to OCLC to completely replace VDX functionality. Also, Tipasa is being positioned as an “upgrade” so we wouldn’t have to go through an RFP process.

All-Chairs:

  • All operations subteams presented short overviews of what their groups have been working on at the UC-wide SILS Town Hall on Tuesday. A video recording will be available later.

Accessibility update:

  • UCOP’s Web Accessibility Specialist has finished looking at Primo VE and is in the process up finishing up findings.

Slack/General Questions

5

Calculated availability

UCSD - New staff member starting working in Primo - thinking about training and onboarding. Specifically front end developer. - Gather thoughts for next meeting.

UCSD Article Galaxy Scholar

  • New version of reprints desk which allows unmoderated purchase of articles (with certain criteria like undergrads get x number of free articles and faculty get y, etc)

  • No other campus looking at this at the moment.

  • UCSD will probably have it show for specific collections?

Reminder sandbox update this month

Exclude CDI eBooks

Determine next steps

Our in progress decision page

ERES feedback Discussion:

  • Is Primo VE more like Google or more like an eCommerce site? Because you don’t expect duplicates with eCommerce sites. Consider that we have facets like someplace like Amazon does.

  • We just got users use to seeing book chapters, reviews, etc. Option 1 would remove these, do we want this?

  • Presumably Option 1 would have to be done at the NZ level for NZ electronic resources. Who decides what the NZ setting is?

  • Does ILL want unpurchased ebooks to show up in Primo VE? One campus had heard this was a problem because ebooks are usually not lendable and it wasn’t clear if a physical book would be ok.

  • We’d like more clarification around next steps for determining CDI vs CZ record quality.

We will gather additional information around ILL ebooks and CDI vs CZ. We also need to have a discussion with ERES about the desirability of duplicates and Discovery has a very different perspective.

  • Gem will reach out to Resource Sharing and ask for feedback on ILL ebook question.

  • Gem will reach out to ERES to ask about CDI vs CZ paragraph.
