Update: Claudia has agreed to be co-chair!

OCLC Master records: it might be a whole project to get OCLC Master records to put into the network zone, and it might cost money. What would WG think? (1) no money in the MPI for data cleanup, (2) inclined to

Review of timeline: Vanguard milestones

To prepare for May 22 Q&A with ExL: put questions in here by end of day 19th.

Overview of Ex Libris presentation

Takeaways from the Ex Libris overview on Monday

20

Chair

What did you think? What challenges did you see? Any next steps that are obvious?

  • Hard part is that the system still makes a lot of assumptions about workflows (thinking about it from Acq/ERM) about how CDL managing consortial things. Do we have a more full list of consortial customers? → we’re looking for a more distributed purchasing system, compared to CSU for example where the central office does everything end to end Alma supports that consortium in a different way where the process is a little more distributed - we’re trying to find our peer model.

  • Ex Libris doesn’t seem to understand CDL data or shared data or processes, and it seems that we need to have a 1:1 with them on those matters.

  • How can we give Ex Libris a good overview about what our system is like? They won’t be able to give meaningful answers without giving them the big picture. Maybe we are jumping into the weeds too fast. → How to understand the UC environment.

  • What is training like from Ex Libris? We have “ordered a number of scoops from the buffet” and can mix and match what we need.

  • Also thinking about discovery? I still don’t know what discovery things we’ll have? Did confirm that we will have a Primo VE for our Network Zone.

Posted request for overview here: https://3.basecamp.com/3765443/buckets/15553579/messages/2679524984

@Caitlin Nelson reach out to Ex Libris for a list of “peer consortia” like us.

Basecamp messages

Get on the same page about the new “rules of the road” - FYI

Caitlin

  • SILS chairs can post questions as needed on Basecamp;

  • Each chair / group will get their own category

    • Include rationale here…. Discovery and ownership

  • Ex Libris within a couple of days should either answer or acknowledge.

  • Once the question is answered, owner should respond “thanks this is done” and archive it.

  • Escalation conditions: if there is no response within a few days, it can be brought up at the next appropriate check-in; escalation can also be tagged with the escalate “category” - and we can sort by that, and look only at the escalate questions during a meeting.

    • Who tags escalation? PMs can; owner is expected to escalate their own questions as needed - tag it and let Caitlin know what’s going on.

  • Meeting is a safe space to analyze questions and figure out next steps.

  • Different questions should get different threads - use common sense.

Visioning reports

High-level reports on the group visions

20

Team

For groups that did vision exercise, what are you thinking so far?

Josephine: Discovery Vision - aiming for a one pager eventually

TSELG: haven’t done it yet, but started creating some topics for the group to think about.

Acq/ERM: We do have a brainstorm draft.

Confusion! About what “visioning” really means - it’s meant to be thinking about principles, ideas, guideposts, guidelines, rememberances for helping to make decisions later on. We have generic harmonization principles as well.

Check-in in two weeks to see where we are with this.
These docs will not be published anywhere, but will be mostly for internal use.
