  • RMFG: slated to vote on our first test load decision next week (035 data) and will also use that to iron out kinks in our decison process. Thank you to all of the other FG/ELG chairs who have agree to provide feedback on various decisions. The deadlines are tight all around and I appreciate the willingness to work within my group’s calendar. RMFG has weekly “study hall” sessions where members can ask random questions about Alma and where we can do some collective testing for decision making. Liz, Shi, and Yoko have passed the certification test so now 4 RMFG members are Alma certified.

  • AEFG: Developing testing times and draft decision page documents. Scheduling additional sessions for 1) Test Items, focusing first on CDL/NZ Purchasing and Vendors, E-Resources related; 2) RMFG Feedback items; and 3) Open Sessions - using RMFGs "study hall" model.

  • FIFG: Testing fulfillment scenarios individually and as a group similar to the “RMFG” study hall model until members are comfortable enough with Alma to break into smaller testing groups. RMFG feedback items

  • DCFG: We don’t (yet) have a Vanguard Primo VE site that contains any item-level metadata for digital collections, so we’ve been using UCSC’s Primo as a stand-in. CDL is still hoping to get some Calisphere collections harvested during the Vanguard, and UCLA is also interested in having our LA Times photo collection harvested.

  • Discovery: All decisions will not be “final” decisions, just decisions for test load. Does Disc need access to the Primo NZ? PMs to create a public space and/or email to cohort where these links can be shared, except for UCB.

  • DCFG: Useful Resources This is handy, but needs some clarification/explanation about the difference between UCs Network and UCs Union View. Claudia will investigate.

    • From Liz M in chat: Ex Libris said they don't advise having both but gave them to us because we asked.

    • From Claudia in chat: End users should use Union View.

      • For Union View: users can select and sign in to their own institution using sign-in options specific to that institution. After selecting and signing in to an institution, the following occurs:

Users are affiliated with a specific institution and continue to use the union view.
Delivery options for physical and electronic services are now based on the selected institution.
The vid param in the URL will change to the context of their institution.

      • The Union view is set as default view and it allows a consortium to create a view that publicizes materials held by all member institutions. For guest users, this view allows users to search the entire network and request services (such as electronic and general electronic services) that are defined at the network level. After signing in to a specific member institution, users can then request services offered by that specific institution.
Those are the most relevant parts of Ping’s answers.

      • What is replacing Melvyl functionality for ILL requests outside of the UCs? Fulfillment FG (Joe Ferrie) is working on this.

@Claudia Horning (Unlicensed) add clarification/explanation for what the various links on the Useful Resources page provide.
@Christine Barone (Unlicensed) is there a high level place where we can post the links on Claudia’s page (particularly the UCs Network and UCs Union View) and Josephine’s links so that the cohort can access it? Possibly an email to cohort as well. DO NOT share UCB’s link
@Xiaoli Li will coordinate a meeting with Discovery and CDL-NZ group and CDL. (revised: Xiaoli and Josephine talked and Discovery Group will collect information from other consortia about their use os a union catalog first)

Decisions needed

Review and approve decisions

10

Vanguard-- Testing OCLC daily updates - approved

Bib record management in the Vanguard - approved

  • RMFG: Focusing on monos because serials are more subject to change and campuses concerned with data loss would prefer to review those manually.

Outside-SILS groups with feedback

Open Access, SCP, RLFs, ETDs, mass dig, etc. all have issues that relate to SILS - what’s the best path into SILS?

Who should do testing for OA?

Determine how these topics are relevant to PPC?

What decisions does PPC want to make about it?

All

There was some discussion about using CDI (Primo Central Discovery Index) to manage OA resources, i.e. only activate CDI for Primo discovery and not add bibliographic records to Alma. There are a lot of good reasons to consider it but it raises a lot of questions, like:

Is CDI good enough for OA, should it managed at NZ and by who?

Who needs to be involved in testing it out and decision-making?

Does SCP (or any campus) need to continue to catalog OA resources?

Should anyone migrate existing OA bib records?

How do the UC commitments to OA resources align with using CDI for discovery?

ETDs are potentially a post migration policy - Xiaoli will review the ETD issues document

Should this be added to DOCs list of post migration collaborative efforts. This is a brainstorming document created by DOC (not decisions! just people putting ideas together).

External questions should be directed to PPC email list: SILS-PPC-L@listserv.ucop.edu and PPC can discuss and disseminate.

Create a PPC decision page that OA is out of scope for vanguard.

@Xiaoli Li will talk to Rice Majors to see if their brainstorming doc can be shared with PPC
@Beth Callahan (Unlicensed) will take the OA issue to her group. May need others to help her discuss this well
@Claudia Horning (Unlicensed) will take the ETD issue back to Lisa Schiff

SSM update

“Lessons learned” event.

Determine if the groups wants this/find it valuable.

Christine

  • This session would be for us. Can we make a decision on this now or is more time needed?

    • Would we use a PPC meeting for this?

    • A SILS Chairs?

    • Ad hoc meeting?

    • Would each FG have their own session with their group and then bring the highlights back to the PPC?

  • PPC is already learning along the way, would the audience be outside the PPC?

  • There is no strong feeling that this is needed. Also, FGs are too busy with testing to really consider this at the moment.

Table this until November.
