Sharing and Updates

Share any Discovery related information from other SILS groups

User Settings for Persistent Search History: This is functional. It is off by default and must be configured by each institution.
See Release Notes, scroll down to User Settings for Persistent Search History, then scroll past Analytics - Persistent Search History to find Configuration Options.

Davis is turning it on in the sandbox shortly.

2

WorldCat Link Updates

Review spreadsheet and offer suggestions or input by August 26.

Resources link is out of date at some, maybe all campuses.

Do people have opinions?

Are the links correct?

Gem

“It sounds like many of the existing custom links don’t currently work and since WCD is no longer our primary discovery layer they’d like to standardize what is entered.  They are proposing replacing existing custom links with 3 links for each campus and CDL: 1) Off-campus Access 2) UC Library Search 3) Library Website. “

Minor concern: Chat icon color is the same color as the footer. Can it be more contrasting?

3

Discovery UX Subteam

Review and agree upon draft proposal to create an expertise based UX subteam

Draft Proposal: Proposal for UX Subgroup

The current Discovery Subteam is not sufficient in and of itself to handle the broad range of expertise needed to tackle the backlog and future work plan.
We want to separate the team into an expertise based Configuration team that makes changes in Primo and an expertise based UX team that does testing and provides feedback

Jackie: FYI the Ethical and Inclusive Metadata Practices in UCLS Project Team Charge was a in a really effective format to send to OT: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zs3TNj3y9EYNQqNdspBSG673vOvp0gTW_rXFZmpvU8w/edit

Unlike the other groups, this one does not have the expectation of 1 member per campus. Expertise based.

Do we want this as a project team? The advantage would be that it exists and easier to get approved, but UX is not time limited. Maybe "This team will review yearly to see if it's still relevant." Project teams get access to everything SILS

The Agency the project team will have in making/recommending decisions. So many are made at the campus level. If the team has a recommendation will it be harmonized or campus by campus?

Joshua will refine the draft in a Project Team direction.

Everyone will talk to their local teams to see who is interested in participating.

SCP Question Regarding HathiTrust collections

What exactly is being asked?

What is the Discovery impact if SCP removes local HathiTrust portfolios?

SCP has 9677 local HathiTrust portfolio records (HathiTrust Digital Library (Local-OA) Collection ID: 61463249050006531) that were migrated as byproduct of titles from other licensed collections. These portfolios have been put into a local collection to be determined right after migration. SCP has not brought any HathiTrust link since migration. With the CDI activated for HathiTrust Digital Library Full View U.S. Only, SCP would like to remove all HathiTrust local portfolios.

With having that portfolio available only in the CDI without local records/portfolios, you can only access that through CDI search scopes. We can’t see it in the local scope.

Could we utilize the HathiTrust API?

Everyone: Go back to your local groups and relay this information, the issues we see right now, and get feed back about other issues and concerns. Due: September 9th.
