Meeting Recording:

Informal discussion about what each campus has been working on UX wise.

UCLA: Finished usability testing conducted by student designers. They are still compiling the data but feel that it is good intel. They are also ideating wireframe ideas for a website/primo redesign and will share it over the next few weeks.

UCI: UX Advisory group is wrapping up with recommendations. They have also been testing the November 2022 release regarding Direct Linking from the Full Record. There are issues where sometimes the first record isn’t the one you want the user directed to and even though there is functionality to be able to reorder those links, it doesn’t seem to be working as expected. Further, any changes to the order only apply to IZ-only records, it doesn’t apply to NZ linked records. EResources is discussing this at a SILS level.

UCB: A lot of talking about what information librarians want displayed in the records. Drafting new text for the UC Library Search landing page, and for the Sign In banner.

UCSC: Following up on findings developed from their usability study. Trying out various label changes which are high impact to users. Considering changing the unavailability label to “Request this Item” instead of the various “Unavailable - Lost” and “Unavailable - On Loan” because users don’t care WHY the item is not available, they just want to get it. Also, going back to the Direct Linking conversation, they are looking into this updated feature as well because, across the board, users are always surprised when they are in the Full Record and click on “View Online” and are taken down further in the record to a list instead of to the resource.

UCR: Messing with normalization rules for the full record display. Enabled 971 field (Used for Named Collections) for both search and display in Primo and set it up to be a hyperlink to an advanced search. Modified rule for ISBN so it displays $a and $q so users knew what ISBN was for which volume in multivolume records. Tweaked the 035 rule so that it would stop showing duplicate numbers only differentiated by the on/ocm/ocm prefixes, and it strips the (OCoLC) from the display. So we get OCLC : 123456 instead of OCLC : (OCoLC)on123456. Turned on Persistent Search History, then activated a persistent Resource recommender banner to announce the feature to students.
