We are starting to build this document during our time.

Successfully completed during meeting.

SILS Harmonization Principles

Understand how to balance our decision-making process

10

Josephine

When deciding whether and how to harmonize, we will create outcomes that allow us to:

  1. Prioritize the end user experience.

  2. Simplify

  3. Keep evolving: we will not be bound to long-standing practices and systems that are no longer useful.

  4. Strongly support unique needs.

  5. Enable data-driven decision making.

  6. Unify the experience for users of our general collections.

  7. Share the load.

These will continue to be guiding principles throughout our project. A link to these principles is also on our Team Charter page to keep these reminders handy.

4

Taking the Temperature survey

Discuss suggestions of how to meet the ideas expressed in survey results Taking the Temperature survey

20

Josephine

Survey results can help guide our decisions

Those who have already implemented Alma at their campuses will share their lessons learned.

Josephine will create a shared document for our Alma “mentors” to share what they have learned.

Josephine will create a shared document for us to record our concerns & other things to keep in mind that we add to throughout this project.

Josephine will continue to collect training materials we can all use to learn more about Alma / Primo VE and other relevant resources. She will post them to a central site soon.

5

Updates from Policy & Practice Coordinator Group (PPC)

Review relevant items from PPC

9

Josephine

  • When thinking of balancing systemwide and local customization, keep in mind that the most highly-used pieces should be highly consistent. But unique thing could be different. Focus on shared services.

  • How do we manage the different levels of experience with Alma? Alma campuses can be more like mentors/experts.

  • Smaller decisions made by group can be noted in the minutes “Decisions” column.

  • Bigger decisions can be developed and discussed and placed on the “Decisions” in the left side bar of the Discovery FG Confluence page.

  • “Critical SILS Issues” relating to Discovery – compiled during SILS Phase 3

We want to keep an eye on what other groups are doing and how we might relate to what they are doing.

Josephine & Sarah will update the Team at each mtg of anything new to report from the other SILS groups they are a member of.

Parking Lot/Q&A

Save these issues for future discussion & comments

[Michael] Information searching is a journey. Searching is non-linear and iterative. Keep the ACRL framework in mind.

[Sharon] Where does functionality fit in?

For being data driven, depends on what the question is and where is the data coming from.

Q: What is the difference between Primo VE and Primo NZ?

A: VE is the discovery layer and NZ is the network zone.

Q: What does this discovery layer look like?

The SILS mission is to transform library services and operations through innovation and collaboration. The future is shared!
